Mexico Drug Kingpin Admits U.S. Funding

Raw Story

A captured Mexican drug kingpin admitted to “investments” in Colombia and said he had received trailers full of dollars from the United States, in a first interrogation video released here.

US-born Edgar Valdez, alias “the Barbie” for his fair complexion, was captured this week, in a major coup for the Mexican government as it struggles to contain raging drug violence.

Valdez, 37, was a key lieutenant of Arturo Beltran-Leyva, who headed the Beltran-Leyva cartel and was Mexico’s third most wanted man until his December 2009 death in a military operation.

Mexican justice officials on Wednesday interrogated “the Barbie” and were set to decide whether he would be sent to the United States, where he has been indicted in several drug trafficking cases.

US and Mexican officials both offered some two million dollars for information leading to his arrest.

The broad-faced drug trafficker wiped sweat off his face as he replied to questions from a female voice in images released by the attorney general’s office late Tuesday.

He said his networks extended to Colombia and he received payments from the United States in dollars hidden in vehicle trailers.

TACOMA, Wash. – Army Sergeant Joshua Tabor was sentenced to 60 days in jail this morning after investigators say he “water boarded” his three-year-old daughter.

Police said 27-year-old Tabor punished his daughter last January in their Yelm home because she did not know her ABC’s and was having trouble learning to use the bathroom. Authorities said he pulled his daughter’s head backward into the kitchen sink.

Yelm Police Chief Todd Stancil said Tabor knew she was afraid of water and thought it was an appropriate punishment.

At first Tabor entered a not guilty plea to the charge but then entered no contest please in August.

Tabor will not be allowed to see his daughter for the next five years.

Tabor’s attorney said his client suffers from post traumatic stress disorder after serving tours as a helicopter mechanic in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Another JBLM soldier, Ruben Colon, is awaiting trial for allegedly waterboarding his foster son as punishment last year.

Shamed ‘cat dumper’ Mary Bale has been signed off work with stress following the worldwide furore over her wheelie bin scandal, it emerged today.

The bank clerk became a hate figure when CCTV footage showed her dropping four-year-old Lola into a bin ‘as a joke’.

She has now been signed off work at the Royal Bank of Scotland on full pay for at least three weeks.

Bank chiefs have come under increasing pressure to sack the 45-year-old after customers threatened to boycott the branch in Rugby.

A source at the bank said: ‘She has been under increasing stress from work and has signed off sick.

‘She has a doctor’s note saying she is not fit to work at the moment because she is too stressed.

‘Bosses do not expect her back into work for at least two or three weeks.’

Unmarried Miss Bale, from Coventry, could also face prosecution by the RSPCA after the tabby cat was trapped in the bin for 15 hours.

After the incident, Miss Bale was led away by police to be interviewed by RSPCA officers.

However, a spokesman said the decision to prosecute Miss Bale ‘could take quite a while’ as ‘we want to do a thorough investigation’.

Schwarzenegger to speak at Bohemian Club Gathering

Schwarzenegger to speak at Bohemian Club Gathering

Press Democrat
July 29, 2010

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is scheduled to address a throng of rich and powerful men on Friday under the towering redwoods at the Bohemian Grove as the annual encampment along the Russian River in Monte Rio enters its final weekend.

No one other than Bohemian Club members and their guests will hear the governor’s speech, which is — like everything that transpires during the 17-day midsummer enclave — done in absolute privacy.

Plutocrats and powerbrokers, including former presidents, annually flock to the 2,700-acre wooded retreat where neither women, other than grove employees, nor outsiders of either gender are permitted.

“It’s a private gentleman’s club,” club spokesman Sam Singer said. “People are coming to get away from the duties of daily life. They don’t desire to be on the front page of The Press Democrat or The New York Times.

“In real life, they get there often enough,” he said.

The club has about 2,000 members.

Mixing their revelry and weird rituals with serious issues, the Bohemians hear from a series of speakers, this year including media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who discussed “the future of news” and former secretaries of state George Shultz and James Baker on international relations and terrorism threats.

The speakers list, including ex-President George H. W. Bush in 1995 and not-yet President Richard Nixon in 1967, remains a well-guarded secret.

But on Thursday night, the club’s more artistically inclined members will go public, staging the 99th annual Monte Rio Variety Show at the river community’s amphitheater, a fundraiser for three Monte Rio organizations.

Cops charged with helping drug dealer

Cops charged with helping drug dealer

Two Milwaukee police officers face federal charges related to cocaine delivery and money laundering.

Sgt. Royce Lockett and officer Paul Hill said little during their court appearance late Friday afternoon.

Lockett is accused of aiding a drug dealer who claimed he was trying to transport two kilograms of cocaine. If convicted, Lockett faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prison, and up to 40 years.

Hill is accused of helping the same drug dealer conceal the alleged proceeds of drug transactions. Hill’s money-laundering charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison plus a $250,000 fine.

Public defender Chip Burke says both men have served Milwaukee honorably as police officers. He says it’s a sad day for law enforcement.

94% of Senate Bills Passed in Secret

94% of Senate Bills Passed in Secret

CRS Report
July 28, 2008

855 bills have passed the Senate with no debate, no amendments, no votes

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) and Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) released a report by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service (CRS) finding that 94 percent of bills the Senate has passed in the 110th Congress have been without a vote, debate or a single amendment. The 855 bills that have been secretly passed spend more than $9 billion, though a final total is not available because many of the bills were rushed through before a cost analysis could be performed.

Senator DeMint: “It would surprise many Americans to learn that the ‘World’s Greatest Deliberative Body’ passes the overwhelming majority of legislation without any debate at all. Democrats think they are entitled to pass bills without debate or votes, and they’ve tried to ram them through right before recess to pressure us to give up. But, Senators shouldn’t fear debate on these important bills. It’s in the best traditions of our republic to demand the Senate actually do its job and have a public debate on bills that expand government and increase the burden on taxpayers. Senator Reid can complain all he wants, but Republicans represent millions of Americans whose voices are being silenced by Democrat strong-arm tactics.”

Dr. Coburn: “The U.S. Senate has a nine percent approval rating because the American people believe that much of our work is done in secret with no debate, no transparency and no accountability. This report shows that the reality is worse than the public’s fears. Instead of encouraging open debate, I’m disappointed that Majority Leader Reid often chooses secrecy or demagoguery. For instance, he has depicted my effort to reduce the number of bills that pass the Senate in secret by ten percent as ‘unprecedented obstruction.’ What is unprecedented and ahistorical, however, is the Majority Leader’s view that Senators should have a king-like right to pass massive spending bills in secret with no debate, no amendments and no recorded vote.”
