CIA Sprayed LSD on French Village

CIA Sprayed LSD on French Village

Sydney Morning Herald
March 12, 2010

PARIS: In 1951 a quiet village in southern France was suddenly and mysteriously struck down with mass insanity and hallucinations. At least five people died, dozens were committed to asylums and hundreds afflicted.

For decades it was assumed that the local bread had been unwittingly poisoned with a psychedelic mould. Now an even more extraordinary explanation has emerged, with evidence suggesting the CIA peppered food with the hallucinogenic drug LSD as part of a mind-control experiment at the height of the Cold War.

The mystery of Le Pain Maudit (”The Cursed Bread”) still haunts Pont-Saint-Esprit, in the Gard, south-east France. On August 16, 1951, the inhabitants suddenly suffered frightful hallucinations of terrifying beasts and fire.

One man tried to drown himself, screaming his belly was being eaten by snakes. An 11-year-old tried to strangle his grandmother. Another man shouted, ”I am a plane”, before jumping out of a second-floor window, breaking his legs. He then got up and carried on for 45 metres. Another saw his heart escaping through his feet and begged a doctor to put it back. Many were taken to the asylum in straitjackets.

Time magazine wrote at the time: ”Among the stricken, delirium rose: patients thrashed wildly on their beds, screaming that red flowers were blossoming from their bodies, that their heads had turned to molten lead.”

Eventually, it was determined that a baker had unwittingly contaminated his flour with ergot, a hallucinogenic mould that infects rye grain. Another theory was that the bread had been poisoned with mercury.

However, H.P. Albarelli jnr, an investigative journalist, claims the outbreak resulted from a covert experiment directed by the CIA and the US army’s top-secret Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, Maryland.

(mental note: Fort Detrick is the same facility that the stolen vials of anthrax came from)

The scientists who produced both the theories of accidental poisoning, he writes, worked for the Swiss-based Sandoz Pharmaceutical Company, which was then secretly supplying the US army and CIA with LSD.

Mr Albarelli came across CIA documents while investigating the suicide of Frank Olson, a biochemist working for the Special Operations Division who fell from a 13th floor window two years after the cursed bread incident. One note transcribes a conversation between a CIA agent and a Sandoz official who mentions the ”secret of Pont-Saint-Esprit” and explains that it was not ”at all” caused by mould but by diethylamide, the D in LSD.

While compiling his book, A Terrible Mistake: The Murder of Frank Olson and the CIA’s Secret Cold War Experiments, Albarelli spoke to former colleagues of Olson, two of whom told him that the Pont-Saint-Esprit incident was part of a mind-control experiment run by the CIA and US army.

During the 1950s, the US launched a vast research program into the mental manipulation of prisoners and enemy troops.

Scientists at Fort Detrick told him that agents had sprayed LSD into the air and also contaminated ”local food products”.

Albarelli said the ”smoking gun” was a White House document sent to members of the Rockefeller commission formed in 1975 to investigate CIA abuses. It contained the names of French citizens who had been secretly employed by the CIA and made direct reference to the ”Pont St. Esprit incident”.

In its quest to research LSD as an offensive weapon, Albarelli says, the army also drugged more than 5700 unwitting US servicemen between 1953 and 1965.

None of his sources would say if the French secret services were aware of the alleged operation.

People in Pont-Saint-Esprit still want to know why they were hit by such apocalyptic scenes.

”At the time people brought up the theory of an experiment aimed at controlling a popular revolt,” said Charles Granjoh, 71.

”I almost kicked the bucket,” he told a French magazine. ”I’d like to know why.”

Globalists Exploit Financial Meltdown In Move Towards One World Currency

Paul Joseph Watson & Kurt Nimmo
Prison Planet
October 20, 2008

The swift and ruthless exploitation of the economic meltdown on behalf of globalists and central banks revolves around their drive to move towards a one world currency system and an unprecedented centralization of global financial power.

Statements on behalf of world leaders and central banks over the past two weeks have made it clear that the agenda to further collate economic power and control of currencies into the hands of the few is rapidly accelerating – all in the name of solving a financial crisis that was caused as a result of the same fiat money system that the elite themselves created and maintained.

The original Bretton Woods agreement in 1944, spurred by the depression of the 1930s and the second world war, created the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and laid down common standards for markets around the world. Now with the current financial crisis EU leaders see another opportunity to impose global regulations on sovereign economies.

As the crisis reached its peak at the end of September, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown led the call for “a new global financial order in which the world financial system would be built around a centrally coordinated policy of international regulation.

Morgan Stanley Chief Executive John Mack has also called for a new global body to oversee the financial crisis, warning that it is like nothing he’s ever seen before.

The sentiment echoes those of elite figures such as CFR member Jeffrey Garten and Timothy Geithner, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who have both recently called for a “new global monetary authority”, a de-facto global financial dictatorship, operating across borders and forcing nations and corporations to register and adhere to strict monitoring and regulations.

European Central Bank council member Ewald Nowotny told Bloomberg yesterday that the centrality of the U.S. dollar was in question and that a “tri-polar” global currency system is in development between the U.S., Asia and Europe to replace it.

This followed a call by French President to question whether a “worldwide currency system” should be introduced in response to the financial crisis.

“Another subject in tomorrow’s world is that of the great currencies. How many should there be? What should the agreement between these great currencies be? Should we organize a discussion? Should a country like India one day have a global currency?” Sarkozy told a news conference, reports Reuters.

Any discussion would be purely academic, as the ruling elite long ago decided to force a global currency down our throats. In fact, a global currency is at the very core of their plan to dominate the world. Control money and you control the destiny of states, you eliminate national sovereignty. “The control of money and credit strikes at the very heart of national sovereignty,” A.W. Clausen, president of Bank of America once observed.

As Georgetown professor and CFR historian Carroll Quigley noted, the goal of the banking families and their minions consists of “nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole… controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent private meetings and conferences.”

It remains to be seen if the EU will realize its “solution” to the world economic crisis. In 2007, Robert Mundell, “the father of the euro,” noted that “international monetary reform usually becomes possible only in response to a felt need and the threat of a global crisis.”

Certainly, the elite cooked up an appropriate global crisis, now they will engage in a full court press to establish a global currency and eventually a global government.

EU Leaders Call for Global Currency

If we are to believe the Washington Post, French president and current EU leader Nicolas Sarkozy has pledged to save us from nameless “freewheeling bankers and traders” who get the blame for the current economic crisis.

Sarkozy, Gordon Brown, and EU honcho José Manuel Barroso are talking up an international summit to discuss an “urgent overhaul of the world’s financial architecture,” that is to say a new Bretton Woods to establish a brand spanking new international economic order. Sarkozy has managed to grab George Bush’s ear and he will travel to Washington on Saturday to lay the groundwork for a conference.

In 1944, 44 allied nations met at a resort in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, to fiddle with monetary standards, fix exchange rates, and create the IMF and World Bank. “Launching a remake of this old model — particularly in such a short time, with so many new participants — would represent a daunting challenge at any time, but particularly during the twilight of the Bush presidency and the crisis that is still jolting banks and stock markets around the world,” reports the Post.

Sarkozy and the EU leaders would have us believe this new Bretton Woods will call for “globally coordinated regulation of the financial industry, elimination of tax havens and a compensation system in which traders are not rewarded for dangerous risk-taking,” among other things.

It was the demise of Bretton Woods in 1971, insists European Central Bank president Jean- Claude Trichet, that led to the abandonment of regulation and subsequent market turmoil. “The explosion of the first Bretton Woods in a way could be interpreted as a rejection of discipline,” said Trichet, reports Bloomberg.

Gordon Brown, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, wants to fix that turmoil with a new spate of regulations aimed at international finance. On October 13 in London, Brown said “we must devise new rules for a world of global capital flows” just as the founders of Bretton Woods “devised rules for a world of limited capital flows.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFs99zBTRO0

“We now have global financial markets but what we do not have is anything other than national and regional regulation and supervision,” Brown lamented from Brussels.

All of this is nonsense. It should be obvious by now the bankers engineered the current crisis in order to consolidate their hold on the global economy and all the talk about rogue traders, tax havens, and over-compensated executives is merely that — talk, or more specifically a sales pitch, a slick parlor trick devised to fool the commoners.

Glossed over in all the corporate media coverage is the global elite demand that a global currency be established. “Europe wants to present a blueprint for a new worldwide currency system,” reports the AFP in the video here.

“Another subject in tomorrow’s world is that of the great currencies,” Reuters reported Sarkozy musing on October 16. “How many should there be? What should the agreement between these great currencies be? Should we organize a discussion?”

Georgian authorities block Russian aid for Gori

Russia Today
August 19, 2008

The city authorities of Gori have refused humanitarian aid from Russia. A convoy carrying food for the Georgian city was ordered on Monday to return to Tskhinvali, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

The humanitarian convoy was unloading its cargo at a local church in preparation for its later distribution when a man came and demanded that the trucks left. He reportedly said the city needed no help, according to ITAR TASS news agency.

The ministry has been making a daily delivery ofng 40 to 45 tonnes of food to Georgia for the last four days, said Emergencies Minister Sergey Shoigu on Monday. The normal food supply was disrupted after local authorities fled from advancing Russian troops.

Russia is now withdrawing its military contingent from Gori. Last Thursday it handed over control of law and order in the city to Georgian police.

Media spreading disinformation – Russia’s UN ambassador

Media spreading disinformation – Russia’s UN ambassador

Russia Today
August 15, 2008

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITwdG4dHKl0

Russia’s ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin has dismissed media reports that the Georgian city of Gori is “in ruins.” He called the allegations a “disinformation campaign” and pointed to the fact that Russian peacekeepers have in fact performed a humanitarian mission there.

Speaking to reporters at the UN headquarters in New York, Churkin expressed his disappointment that “respectable publications are falling prey to this propaganda campaign”.

On the possibility of a Security Council resolution on Georgia, he said there was a new draft whose purpose was “quite simply to support with the authority of the Security Council the six-point Medvedev-Sarkozy plan, and it is a completely different territory now.”

He stressed that in any discussions regarding the territorial integrity of Georgia, “there is the question of the will of the people of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and we believe all these needs must be reflected in the thinking of the international community.”

Responding to a question on Georgia’s desire to join NATO, Churkin said Russia is opposed to any expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, and there are “better ways to deal with matters of European-North Atlantic security, more cooperative ways that would include rather than exclude Russia”.

France calls to lift ban on terrorist group MEK

France calls to lift ban on terrorist group MEK

Press TV
July 17, 2008

French deputies have urged the removal of the Mujahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) from the European Union’s list of terrorist groups.

Some 290 French deputies signed a declaration condemning what they called the “terrible human rights violations in Iran.”

The document was presented on Wednesday during a ceremony at France’s National Assembly which was also attended by British Members of Parliament and deputies from the European Parliament.

One French Communist Party deputy announced that France would push for the reclassification of the MKO during the country’s six-month presidency of the European Union (EU).

A British Conservative MP also called for the EU to lift the terrorist label from the MKO, which Britain did last month.

A British court ruling ordered the reversal of the UK ban on the terrorist organization, a move supported by lawmakers in London.

Iran strongly criticized the decision by the British court and urged the UK to reform its hostile policies towards the Islamic Republic.

The European Union has so far declared that it will keep the MKO on the list of outlawed terrorist groups.

The MKO is listed as a terrorist group by much of the international community including the US. The group has claimed responsibility for numerous terror attacks against Iranian officials and citizens.

Mediterranean Union is launched

BBC
July 14, 2008

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has launched a new international body with 43 member nations aimed at ending conflict in the Middle East.

The Union for the Mediterranean will tackle issues such as regional unrest, immigration to pollution.

At the summit’s opening in Paris, Mr Sarkozy said its aim was to ensure the region’s people could love each other instead of making war.

Israeli and Palestinian leaders earlier expressed optimism about peace talks.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel and the Palestinians have never been as close to a peace deal as they are now.

He was speaking after talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who said both sides were serious and wanted to achieve peace.

Transform the region

Mr Sarkozy urged Middle Eastern countries involved in long-running conflicts to end the deadly spiral of war and violence, as European nations had done by making peace which each other during the 20th Century.

UK Ratifies European Union’s Lisbon Treaty Again!

UK Ratifies European Union’s Lisbon Treaty Again!

James Kirkup
London Telegraph
July 18, 2008

The final act required for the UK to endorse the controversial document was completed this week, the Foreign Office said.

Ratification has gone ahead despite questions over the future of the treaty. It must be accepted by all 27 EU members before taking force next year, but Irish voters last month rejected it in a referendum.

Despite that rejection and Labour’s promise to hold a referendum on the European Constitution that preceded it, Gordon Brown has pressed ahead with ratifying the Lisbon Treaty.

If it takes force, the treaty will create a new EU president and foreign minister, and end scores of national vetoes.

A Daily Telegraph campaign called for a British referendum on the Lisbon Treaty with well over 100,000 people signing a petition.

The final stage of Britain’s ratification was reached on Wednesday when legal documents were deposited with the Italian government in Rome, the city where the Treaty was first proposed at a summit.

Internet Police: G8 Ratifies Crackdown on Illegal Downloads

Internet Police State: G8 Ratifies Crackdown on Illegal Downloads

Charles Arthur
London Guardian
July 10, 2008

The heads of the G8 governments, meeting this week, are about to ratify the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), which – it’s claimed – could let customs agents search your laptop or music player for illegally obtained content. The European Parliament is considering a law that would lead to people who illicitly download copyrighted music or video content being thrown off the internet. Virgin Media is writing to hundreds of its customers at the request of the UK record industry to warn them that their connections seem to have been used for illegal downloading. Viacom gets access to all of the usernames and IP addresses of anyone who has ever used YouTube as part of its billion-dollar lawsuit in which it claims the site has been party to “massive intentional copyright infringement”.

It seems that 20th-century ideas of ownership and control – especially of intellectual property such as copyright and trademarks – are being reasserted, with added legal muscle, after a 10-year period when the internet sparked an explosion of business models and (if we’re honest) casual disregard, especially of copyright, when it came to music and video.

But do those separate events mark a swing of the pendulum back against the inroads that the internet has made on intellectual property?

‘A finger in the dyke’

Saul Klein, a venture capitalist with Index Ventures who has invested in the free database company MySQL, Zend (the basis of the free web-scripting language PHP) and OpenX, an open-source advertising system, is unconvinced. “In a world of abundance – which the internet is quintessentially – that drives the price of everything towards ‘free’,” he says. “People don’t pay for any content online. Not for music, not for video. They get it, either legally or illegally.”

Is that sustainable? “The model of suing your best customers and subpoenaing private information is doomed to failure,” Klein observes. “It’s putting a finger in the dyke. It won’t change the macro trend, which is that there’s an abundance of information. Copyright owners need to find new ways to generate income from their product. The fact is, the music industry is in rude health – more people than ever before are going to concerts, making it, listening to it. It’s the labels that are screwed. The artists and managers are making money. The labels aren’t.

Europe votes on anti-piracy laws

BBC
July 7, 2008

Europeans suspected of putting movies and music on file-sharing networks could be thrown off the web under proposals before Brussels.

The powers are in a raft of laws that aim to harmonise the regulations governing Europe’s telecom markets.

Other amendments added to the packet of laws allow governments to decide which software can be used on the web.

Campaigners say the laws trample on personal privacy and turn net suppliers into copyright enforcers.

Piracy plan

MEPs are due to vote on the so-called Telecom Packet on 7 July. The core proposals in the packet were drawn up to help European telecoms firms cope with the rapid pace of change in the industry.

Technological and industry changes that did not respect borders had highlighted the limitations of Europe’s current approach which sees national governments oversee their telecoms markets.

“The current fragmentation hinders investment and is detrimental to consumers and operators,” says the EU document laying out the proposals.

But, say digital rights campaigners, anti-piracy lobbyists have hijacked the telecoms laws and tabled amendments that turn dry proposals on industry reform into an assault on the freedom of net users.

Among the amendments are calls to enact a Europe-wide “three strikes” law. This would see users banned from the web if they fail to heed three warnings that they are suspected of putting copyrighted works on file-sharing networks.

In addition it bestows powers on governments to decide which programs can be “lawfully” used on the internet.

A coalition of European digital rights groups have banded together to galvanise opposition.

“[The amendments] pave the way for the monitoring and filtering of the internet by private companies, exceptional courts and Orwellian technical measures,” said Christophe Espern, co-founder of French rights group La Quadrature du Net (Squaring the Net) in a statement.

The UK’s Open Rights Group said the laws would be “disproportionate and ineffective”.

The Foundation for a Free Internet Infrastructure (FFII) warned that if the amendments were accepted they would create a “Soviet internet” on which only software and services approved by governments would be allowed to run.

“Tomorrow, popular software applications like Skype or even Firefox might be declared illegal in Europe if they are not certified by an administrative authority,” warned Benjamin Henrion, FFII representative in Brussels, in a statement.

“This is compromising the whole open development of the internet as we know it today,” he said.

U.S. Homeland Security Defends Laptop Searches At Border

Christian Science Monitor
July 11, 2008

Is a laptop searchable in the same way as a piece of luggage? The Department of Homeland Security believes it is.

For the past 18 months, immigration officials at border entries have been searching and seizing some citizens’ laptops, cellphones, and BlackBerry devices when they return from international trips.

In some cases, the officers go through the files while the traveler is standing there. In others, they take the device for several hours and download the hard drive’s content. After that, it’s unclear what happens to the data.

The Department of Homeland Security contends these searches and seizures of electronic files are vital to detecting terrorists and child pornographers. It also says it has the constitutional authority to do them without a warrant or probable cause.

But many people in the business community disagree, saying DHS is overstepping the Fourth Amendment bounds of permissible routine searches. Some are fighting for Congress to put limits on what can be searched and seized and what happens to the information that’s taken. The civil rights community says the laptop seizures are simply unconstitutional. They want DHS to stop the practice unless there’s at least reasonable suspicion.

Legal scholars say the issue raises the compelling and sometimes clashing interests of privacy rights and the need to protect the US from terrorists and child pornographers. The courts have long held that routine searches at the border are permissible, simply because they take place at the border. Opponents of the current policy say a laptop search is far from “routine.”

“A laptop can hold [the equivalent of] a major university’s library: It can contain your full life,” says Peter Swire, a professor of law at Ohio State University in Columbus. “The government’s never gotten to search your entire life, so this is unprecedented in scale what the government can get.”

EU Constitution Author: Referendums Will Be Ignored

EU Constitution Author: Referendums Will Be Ignored

Steve Watson & Paul Watson
Infowars.net
June 27, 2008

Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, author of the rejected European Constitution, has effectively stated that the votes of citizens in EU member states will have no bearing on the future actions of the European Parliament.

The former President of France has told media that referendums, such as last week’s key Irish vote on the Lisbon Treaty, will simply be ignored by bureaucrats in Brussels as they may hinder the progress of European integration.

A London Telegraph report detailed the EU kingpin’s comments:

“We are evolving towards majority voting because if we stay with unanimity, we will do nothing,” he said.

“It is impossible to function by unanimity with 27 members. This time it’s Ireland; the next time it will be somebody else.”

“Ireland is one per cent of the EU”.

d’Estaing also told the Irish Times that after the rejection of the original EU Constitution in 2005 by Dutch and French voters, The Lisbon Treaty was a deliberate attempt to repackage the constitution in a more confusing format.

“What was done in the [Lisbon] Treaty, and deliberately, was to mix everything up. If you look for the passages on institutions, they’re in different places, on different pages,” he said.

“Someone who wanted to understand how the thing worked could with the Constitutional Treaty, but not with this one.”

What kind of parliament completely ignores the will of the people, sets out to intentionally confuse the public into accepting legislation, flouts its own laws, and does whatever it wants without accountability?

The only reason the Irish were even allowed a referendum in the first place was due to the fact that Ireland’s national constitution mandates that any amendment must be put to a vote, the country remained the only bulwark against the EU’s final stumbling block to creating a federal superstate and completely eliminating all remaining vestiges of sovereignty. Other countries, including Great Britain were simply denied a national vote altogether.

Under EU laws, if one of its member states rejects a treaty, the EU is mandated to scrap the bill. But the European Union’s contempt for direct democracy is likely to lead them to ignore the Irish referendum and pursue the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty anyway – underscoring the fact that the EU is nothing more than an illegitimate autocracy of manufactured consent.

The usual tactic of the EU is simply to keep repeating a referendum until they achieve the result they desire.

In 2001 the Irish voted No to the Nice Treaty and were simply asked to vote again a year later. That time they said Yes. In 1992 Denmark voted No to the Maastricht Treaty – and voted Yes a year later. The French and Dutch rejected the constitution in 2005 and the EU architects designed the Lisbon Treaty instead.

But this time the EU is set to go a step further and simply ignore the decision of the Irish people and the will of any future dissenting members, while breaking their own laws – proving once and for all that the body is completely illegitimate, dangerous to democracy and a de-facto federal dictatorship.

EU Treaty Survives Despite Irish ‘No’ Vote

Ireland under Franco-German pressure to hold new EU vote

Nicola Smith
London Times
June 22, 2008

The Irish government is expected to bow to Franco-German pressure and hold a second referendum to try to rescue the Lisbon treaty that voters rejected this month.

The plan for a possible new vote in Ireland, being discussed by some ministers in Dublin, will be greeted with outrage by opponents of the treaty in Britain.

Irish ministers believe it may be able to rescue the treaty if they can secure concessions from Europe to placate voters on a list of issues.

“A yes vote can be achieved if the Irish people are offered guarantees on issues like defence and taxation,” said one senior Irish official.

“The no campaign will be picked off one by one. Everyone has a price.”

The likely time for a new referendum is next spring so that the treaty can come into force before the June 2009 European election campaign for the Brussels parliament. The date is favoured by Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, and Angela Merkel, the German chancellor.

If the Irish vote no again, Gordon Brown would have to choose between siding with Ireland to stop its citizens being turned into second-class Europeans or siding with France and Germany to push ahead with further European Union integration.

Concessions likely to be sought by Ireland include guarantees to protect its neutrality in the event of European armed forces being created, the reinstatement of its right to a European commissioner and the right to set its own abortion laws and corporate tax rates.

A virtual declaration of war against Iran

A virtual declaration of war against Iran

War Without End
June 12, 2008

The following is from retired USAF Colonel Sam Gardiner today:

It is amazing how far Members of the Congress will go in support of Israel . Hidden within a resolution now being considered on the Hill is what amounts to a suggested declaration of war against Iran .

Representative Mark Kirk from Illinois is circulating a Sense of the Congress Resolution (H. Con. Res 362). The resolution now has 47 co-sponsors and “demands that the President initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran…”

This option in the resolution is being pushed by the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee. At the AIPAC meeting in Washington last week both Senators McCain and Obama mentioned an embargo of refined products without any details.

I don’t how the United States inspects aircraft flying from Moscow to Tehran . I don’t know how the United States inspects trucks going from Azerbaijan and Pakistan into Iran . The ships part, however, produces a fairly clear image. The United States Navy operating inside and outside the Gulf stops and searches all ships entering Iranian ports. If the ships are carrying refined products, they are ordered to leave the area. If they refuse, warning shots will be fired. If they continue to refuse, lethal action will be initiated.

Since destination is not always clear, on occasion the United States Navy will have to enter Iranian territorial waters. The United States Navy will be stopping Russian ships and searching them. The United States Navy will be stopping Chinese ships.

To their credit, the McCain campaign must have begun to understand the implications. A spokesman issued a statement yesterday that the Senator was talking about, “a voluntary withdrawal from the Iranian markets of the companies providing gasoline is one option.”

One hopes there can be equal wisdom in the “Sense of the Congress.”

Bush attacks Iran over rejection of nuclear offer

Sydney Morning Herald
June 16, 2008

HE US President, George Bush, has denouned Iran for rejecting a new set of incentives to stop enriching uranium, only hours after the proposal received a cold shoulder when it was delivered by Western diplomats in Tehran.

“I am disappointed that the leaders rejected this generous offer out of hand,” Mr Bush said during a news conference in Paris on Saturday with the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy. “It is an indication to the Iranian people that their leadership is willing to isolate them further. Our view is we want the Iranian people to flourish and to benefit.”

Tehran did not formally reject the offer, meaning that it may be able, as Western officials fear, to play for time, saying that it is in a continuing dialogue with the West while continuing to enrich uranium to secure the amounts necessary for a nuclear bomb.

But the response was far from warm. The package was handed to the Iranian Foreign Minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, by the European Union foreign policy chief, Javier Solana. Mr Mottaki said Iran’s response would depend on how the West responded to Iran’s May 13 proposal calling for international talks on all issues and improved international inspection of Iran’s nuclear facilities. But Iran’s proposal does not mention the key Western demand – that Iran stop enriching uranium.

Before Mr Bush spoke, an Iranian Government spokesman, Gholamhossein Elham, made it clear in Tehran that stopping enrichment was unacceptable.

Blix slams US for threatening Iran

Press TV
June 12, 2008

Former UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix has criticized the US for keeping open the possibility of a military action against Iran.

Blix was in Rome on Friday to take part in an international gathering of experts on nuclear proliferation that was held, coincidentally, during US President George W. Bush’s three-day stop in the city.

“The military threat may well be counterproductive,’’ Blix said in a news conference.

“The rewards are more important, the carrots rather than the sticks,’’ the AP quoted the veteran Swedish diplomat as saying.

Blix tried to avert the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq because no weapons of mass destruction had been found by UN inspectors.

He said the US and Europe should offer incentives including support for Iran joining the World Trade Organization, improved economic relations and guarantees against outside attacks.

Fed Auctions Another $75 Billion to Big Banks

Fed Auctions Another $75 Billion to Big Banks

AP
June 3, 2008

Battling to relieve stressed credit markets, the Federal Reserve said Tuesday it has provided a total of $435 billion in short-term loans to squeezed banks since December to help them overcome credit problems.

The central bank announced the results of its most recent auction — $75 billion in short-term loans — the 11th such auction since the program started in December.

It’s part of an ongoing effort by the Fed to help ease the credit crunch, which erupted last August, intensified in December and January and took another turn for the worst in March.

The housing, credit and financial crises have weakened the economy and threaten to push it into recession.

Fuel Protests In Paris and London

CNN
June 3, 2008

Truckers and taxi drivers slowed traffic around Paris’ business district to a crawl Tuesday in a protest over rising fuel prices, and hundreds of fishermen demonstrated in London to demand government help.

Dozens of trucks and taxis in Paris drove slowly toward and around the headquarters of oil giant Total in La Defense, site of the main financial district, to protest a new tax on heavily polluting vehicles.

Authorities said the operation snarled traffic on several highways.

Farmers elsewhere in France blocked ports and oil terminals as part of protests started by fishermen last month demanding government aid to help compensate for high fuel costs.

Fishermen from around the United Kingdom demonstrated in central London on Tuesday to demand their government’s help in coping with soaring fuel prices.

Hundreds of fishermen gathered outside the London headquarters of the department responsible for food, seeking financial support for an industry they say is especially vulnerable to rising fuel costs.

Barrie Deas, chief executive of the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organizations, said the cost of fuel for fishing boats was making it impossible for many in the industry to keep going.

“Boats are going out to sea and fish for five days in terrible conditions and we’re not getting enough to even pay our crews,” he said.

Chinese Military Thugs Police Torch Relays

Chinese Paramilitary Thugs Policed London Torch Relay

Outrage after British government allowed members of China’s internal security force to manhandle protesters

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
April 9, 2008

Fresh outrage has erupted over the Olympic torch procession after it emerged that the blue-clad thugs witnessed manhandling protesters and barking orders during the torch relay in London were Chinese paramilitary police hired by Beijing and the British government to quell demonstrations.

Officially know as the 29th Olympic Games Torch Relay Flame Protection Unit, this gaggle of bullies were in actual fact, “Picked from special police units of the People’s Armed Police, China’s internal security force.”

The requirements for the job: to be “tall, handsome, mighty, in exceptional physical condition similar to that of professional athletes,” the state-run China News Service said.

The government-hired heavies were also taught to bark a few words of English for the purposes of ordering around torch bearers.

This cadre of gang members honed their expertise in martial arts, marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat, and are trained to brutally suppress demonstrations and farmer’s uprisings in China which routinely result in the slaughter of scores of protesters who dare stand up to the Communist police state.

Hiring foreign paramilitary thug cops to police the streets of our cities is not only flagrantly illegal, it is a telltale sign that we too are living in an oppressive police state.

This is a damning indictment of the attitude the British Labour Party, self-proclaimed “liberals,” holds toward the notion of freedom of speech and the right to peaceably assemble in the UK.

Since the British government effectively outlawed the right to protest with the passage of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act of 2005, demonstrators have taken it upon themselves to flout an unjust law that is anathema to any basic notion of freedom or human rights.

Knowing that any rough treatment towards the Tibetan protesters by the British police would reflect badly on the government’s tattered reputation, Labour gratefully acquiesced to Beijing’s demand to ship in some of China’s most brutal thug cops in order to do their dirty work for them.

Shadow home secretary David Davis wrote a letter to Jacqui Smith, the Home Secretary, yesterday and demanded to know who’s decision it was to unleash these animals onto British streets.

“They were seen manhandling protesters. They even accompanied the torch into Downing Street,” said Davis.

These blue-clad goons did not only physically assault demonstrators, but even metered out their bullying tactics to Olympic officials and the torch bearers themselves.

A CBC News report compiled eyewitness reports of the thugs’ behavior.

Yolaine De La Bigne, a French environmental journalist who was a torchbearer in Paris, told The Associated Press she tried to wear a headband with a Tibetan flag, but the Chinese agents ripped it away from her.

“It was seen and then, after four seconds, all the Chinese security pounced on me. There were at least five or six (of them). They started to get angry” and shouted “No! No! No!” in English, she said.

De La Bigne tried to push several agents away as they grabbed her arm. She said two French athletes who are martial arts experts tried to help her and clashed briefly with the security detail.

The chairman of the London 2012 Games, Sebastian Coe, was even more blunt.

“They tried to push me out of the way three times. They are horrible. They did not speak English. They were thugs,” Coe, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was quoted as saying in British media. A spokeswoman for the London 2012 Olympics committee confirmed that Coe was quoted accurately, but added that he thought he was making private comments.

“They were barking orders at me, like ’Run! Stop! This! That!’ and I was like, ’Oh my gosh, who are these people?”’ former television host Konnie Huq told British Broadcasting Corp. radio about her encounter with the men in blue during London’s leg of the relay Sunday.

This is just the latest example of how one element of globalization, the exchange of policing and troop deployment between countries, is conditioning people to accept foreign troops.

Before the 2006 soccer World Cup, the British government allowed uniformed German police to be on UK soil to identify “potential troublemakers” who were planning on traveling to the tournament.

Before the event, Germany’s interior minister changed the country’s constitution to allow internal troop deployments for “security” reasons.

As part of NATO exercises in September 2003, armed Ukrainian and French soldiers were running checkpoints and harassing members of the public in Scotland.

Alex Jones has attended numerous military urban warfare training drills across the U.S. where role players were used to simulate arresting American citizens and taking them to internment camps. Foreign troops were routinely invited to join the training exercises.

Accepting the deployment of Chinese paramilitary thug cops to police a public event in Britain is completely illegal and indicates that Britons are living under a state of martial law and de-facto military occupation.

Despite empty rhetoric in the media on behalf of western governments supposedly slapping China on the hand for its human rights abuses, the real picture has now emerged.

The UK, the U.S. and China are one of a kind when it comes to using paramilitary police thugs and martial law tactics to silence dissent – and the governments of the three countries are joined at the hip in their efforts to stamp down the jackboot on the right to demonstrate against abuses of the state.

Police State Torch Run

Kurt Nimmo
Infowars
April 9, 2008

In San Francisco, the authorities were so worried about the prospect of thousands of people expressing their outrage over Tibet and China’s flagrant human rights violations they changed the Olympic torch relay route. It was a sneaky, last minute change that denied the people of San Francisco a chance to participate in the torch relay event, an event introduced by the Nazis at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.

It would seem our rulers, not unlike the Nazis, put a lot of credence in what is essentially a pagan event. The Olympic Flame commemorates the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus. A fire permanently burned on the altar of Hestia in Olympia, Greece, in ancient times. During the Olympic Games, which honored Zeus, additional fires were lit at his temple and that of his wife, Hera. The modern Olympic flame is ignited at the site where the temple of Hera once stood.

But so much for the history lesson. In San Francisco this afternoon, pagan symbolism was difficult to make out, as it was buried under a phalanx of SWAT cops, regular cops mounted on bikes, motorcycles, and marching on foot, not to mention tightly surrounded by Chinese secret police in snazzy tracksuits. In fact, after watching a helicopter video feed on CNN, it appears the preponderance of SFPD cops were on hand to provide “security” — from the vagaries of the First Amendment — not only for the torch runners but the detachment of Chinese PAP, short for People’s Armed Police, as well.

Time reports:

The tracksuit-clad Sacred Torch Guard Team was drawn from China’s paramilitary People’s Armed Police, which is used for internal security. The group formed last August and trained by running six miles daily. While their chief mission is to protect the flame, they’ve also cracked down on protesters. Sebastian Coe, a two-time medalist and chairman of the London Games in 2012, called them “thugs” and said they tried to push him. A torchbearer in Paris, environmental journalist Yolaine De La Bigne, told the Associated Press that the team snatched away the Tibetan flag headband she was wearing.

It might be expected that PAP and China’s ruling clique might get away with this in China, even Europe, but here in the United States?

Of course they can get away with it. Because the United States is but a mere shadow of what it was even fifty years ago and today few know what national sovereignty is. Now the corporate media feels obliged to make comments in passing about the “heavy security” at such events but does not bother to follow this aside through — an observer not brainwashed by years of unrelenting police state propaganda supposedly inspired by the horrific events of cave dwelling terrorists, the heavy presence of black-clad cops, including a close quarter SWAT contingent, would be reminded of a police state.

It was breathtaking how easily China’s PAP goons interacted with San Francisco’s finest, the latter who spent at least a little time pushing and shoving a pathetic handful of demonstrators who managed to discover the last minute route change. But then, with every passing day, the U.S. and China become more and more alike, including the same overriding contempt for free speech and dissent.

But then they both have the same bastard father — the New World Order. David Rockefeller was deadly serious when he declared in 2001 that the relationship between China and the United States “is one of the most important bilateral relations in the world. Although US-China relations have experienced misunderstanding in recent years, he said, he is glad to see the recent encouraging improvement in this respect.”

In other words, much of the world misunderstands China’s torture of prisoners, its organ harvest program, its policy of forced abortion, its restrictions on free speech and political organizing, its absence of due process, its suppression of religion, its arbitrary detention of dissidents, and its obsessive use of the death penalty, even for nonviolent property crimes such as theft, embezzlement and forgery.

David Rockefeller, the international bankers, and transnational corporations are not concerned with any of this, of course, as their focus is upon the China Model — that is to say, China’s successful effort to turn the most populated country in the world into a sprawling industrialized slave labor gulag churning out a nearly unimaginable number of “consumer goods, ” never mind the lead paint, heavy metals and other toxins.

And that’s one reason the Olympic torch relay was hemmed in by cops and secret police — because the U.S. does not want to upset the Chinese, who often react violently at the least provocation, or opposition to their totalitarianism, at any rate.

Finally, it should be added that China practically owns the United States. It holds over $1 trillion in dollar denominated assets, of which $330 billion are U.S. Treasury notes.

It’s not really a good idea to anger somebody who holds a large number of chits — and people filling the streets complaining about China’s notorious and multifaceted abuses certainly anger the Chicom leadership.

Despite being shielded by a 50-strong pack of British policeman and Chinese security guards, the Olympic torch parade has been continually interrupted along its 31-mile journey from Wembley Stadium to the O2 Arena by those protesting at China’s human rights record.

A Free Tibet protestor attempted to wrestle the Olympic flame from Blue Peter TV presenter Konnie Huq before being bundled to the ground by police in Ladbroke Grove; two others were taken away after trying to put out the torch with a fire extinguisher in Holland Park and the relay was temporarily stopped near Bloomsbury after three people went too close to Sir Clive Woodward. Throughout its journey, several other protestors also threw themselves in front of those carrying the torch. So far 10 people have been arrested, although this figure is expected to grow.

Three people protesting China’s human rights record and the impending arrival of the Olympic torch climbed up the Golden Gate Bridge on Monday and tied the Tibetan flag and two banners to its cables.

The banners read “One World One Dream. Free Tibet” and “Free Tibet 08.”

The protesters wore helmets and harnesses as they made their way up the cables running next to the south tower of the famed span. The climb had the group suspended several 150 feet above traffic.

Reached by cell phone as he dangled from the bridge, demonstrator Laurel Sutherlin said he was worried that the torch’s planned route through Tibet would lead to more arrests and Chinese officials would use force to stifle any visible dissent.

“The leaders of China have said they’ll maintain order at all costs, and we know what that means — bloodshed and violent oppression,” he said. “If the IOC allows the torch to proceed into Tibet they’ll have blood on their hands.”

Dalai Lama backs Olympics, says violence outdated

The Dalai Lama, Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader, said on Thursday he supports the Beijing Olympics and opposed violent protests that have disrupted the Olympic torch relay around the world.

“It is really deserving for the Chinese people to host the Olympic Games,” he told reporters in Japan. “(Despite) the recent unfortunate event in Tibet, my position won’t change.”

But China’s use of violence was an outdated way to suppress unrest in Tibet, he said during a brief stopover on his way to the United States for a two-week visit he said was not political.

The Dalai Lama told reporters he had sent a message to Tibetans in San Francisco, where the torch relay was held on Wednesday.

“I sent a message to the Tibetans in San Francisco area, please don’t make any violent actions,” he said.

But he added: “Nobody has the right to say ‘shut up’.”

The torch was a magnet last week for chaotic demonstrations in London and Paris and the torch’s only stop in North America turned into a game of hide-and-seek after the San Francisco route was abruptly changed by city officials.
