U.S. VA documents 73,846 deaths from Iraq Wars

U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs documents 73,846 deaths from Iraq Wars as of May 2007

The Canadian
April 6, 2008

U.S. media organizations like CNN, NBC, FOX and others recently reported that the death total of U.S. combatants in Iraq War had just reached 4,000. The problem is that this data seems to be an intentional distortion. Indeed, official U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs data indicates that the death total from the attrition of Iraq Wars had already reached 73,846, as of May 2007. In comparison Sky News reports that during the Vietnam War, 58,000 soldiers were killed between 1964 and 1973, an average of 26 a day. LINK

It is indeed, a well known fact that in a so-called free society, the U.S. President George W. Bush administration has banned media organizations from photographing most of the coffins, along with the maimed military personnel returning into the U.S. from Iraq. And, if you think that the U.S. President Bush administration has followed “freedom of the press” in Iraq, you have made a sudden mistake.

Journalists in Iraq, who have not prostituted themselves into disseminating the Bush administration’s public relations on the “overall success” of the Iraq War, are being subjected to oppressive persecution.

Journalists have complained of fascist-style harassment.

Is this the action of a U.S. President, who is fighting for democracy, that fundamentally relies on transparency toward supporting a critically informed public?

Indeed, award-winning independent Journalist Dahr Jamail reports that “when the United States handed over power to a ’sovereign’ Iraqi interim government, [Paul] Bremer [former U.S. administrator in Iraq] simply passed on the authority to Ayad Allawi.” LINK

Mr. Dahmail further documents that, Mr. Allawi is the “U.S.-installed interim Prime Minister, who has had longstanding ties with the British intelligence service MI6 and the CIA.” LINK

Investigative Journalist Dahr Jamail, also reports that Allawi’s “media commission had sent out an official ’order’ for news organisations to “stick to the government line on the U.S.-led offensive in Fallujah, or face legal action.” The warning was sent on the letterhead of Mr. Allawi.

The result is that Iraq has become under the Bush administration, a far worse “modern Stalinist” police state, than Iraq had ever been under Saddam Hussein. Over 1 million people in Iraq have been reportedly killed, as the direct result of the Bush regime’s pre-emptive War in Iraq. This is in addition to the over 73,000 U.S. military personnel already killed, as documented by U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.

Mr. Bush has coordinated an effort to limit the American public’s understanding of the current Iraq War, based upon the myth-making presentation of the War. That myth-making” has sought to convince Americans, in part, that the war is taking a far less toll of American lives.

Indeed, it is apparent that the U.S. Bush administration, is anxious to “declare progress” and “victory” in Iraq, so that it can pursue its further military expansionist agenda against Iran. Seymour M. Hersh has sounded alarm bells about the Bush regime’s nuclear war ambitions against Iran. LINK

But, “The Bush administration has rejected comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam, which traumatized Americans a generation ago, with a sad procession of military body bags and television footage of grim wartime cruelty,” observed China Daily. LINK

The intellectual inspiration for the U.S. Bush administration’s public relations management of the Iraq War, is Leo Strauss. Wikipedia notes that “Strauss asks his readers to consider whether it is true that noble lies have no role at all to play, in uniting and guiding the polis.” LINK

In 2003, the magazine Foreign Policy In Focus, noted that thanks to the “Week in Review” section of the 4 May 2003 edition of the New York Times and another investigative article in a recent New Yorker magazine, “The cognoscenti have suddenly been made aware that key neoconservative strategists behind the Bush administration’s aggressive foreign and military policy, consider themselves to be followers of Strauss. LINK

Two other very influential Straussians, noted by Foreign Policy in Focus in May 2003, “include Weekly Standard Chief Editor William Kristol and Gary Schmitt, founder, chairman, and director of the Project for the New American Century (PNAC). This is a six-year-old neoconservative group whose alumni include Vice President Dick Cheney and Pentagon [then] chief Donald Rumsfeld, as well as a number of other senior foreign policy officials.” LINK

“PNAC’s early prescriptions and subsequent open letters to President George W. Bush on how to fight the war on terrorism, have anticipated to an uncanny extent precisely what the administration has done.” LINK

The Executive Intelligence Review (EIR), notes that a leading “Straussian” advisor to the Bush Administration has been “Paul Wolfowitz, who was trained by Strauss’ alter-ego and fellow University of Chicago professor Allan Bloom. EIR specifically noted that Wolfowitz has helped champion the “war party” within the civilian bureaucracy at the Pentagon. LINK

Strauss emphasized that ’myths’ are “vitally needed” to “give people meaning and purpose and to ensure a stable society”; and even though he was Jewish, he praised Nazi Germany for embracing the power of myth to control the development of “liberal tendencies” in society. In the view of Strauss, presenting the truth harms society, by liberating “the governed” as “free thinkers” from the “necessary” social control of “elites”.

The Bush administration is inspired by the neo-fascist ideology of Leo Strauss, and has sought to dupe the American public into ignorance about the human suffering of U.S. military personnel in Iraq, by using Straussian techniques of political manipulation.

Shadia Drury, in Leo Strauss and the American Right (1999), argues that Strauss taught different things to different students and inculcated an elitist strain in American political leaders, that is linked to imperialist militarism and to Christian fundamentalism.

Drury accuses Strauss of teaching that “perpetual deception of the citizens by those in power is critical, because they need to be led and because they need strong rulers to tell them what’s good for them.”

Nicholas Xenos in “Leo Strauss and the Rhetoric of the War on Terror,” Logosjournal.com similarly argues that Strauss “was not an anti-liberal in the sense in which we commonly mean ’anti-liberal’ today, but an anti-democrat in a fundamental sense; a true reactionary. Strauss, was somebody who wanted to go back to a previous, pre-liberal, pre-bourgeois era of blood and guts; of imperial domination, of authoritarian rule, and of pure fascism.”

The U.S. President Bush administration’s stated goal of staying in Iraq, to guide Iraq into democracy, and also to combat “terrorists” who threaten American and international security interests, is an apparent clever Straussian ruse. The Bush administration seeks an apparent agenda in Iraq which is far from being the affirmation of democracy and peace.

The lives of Americans have been lost not in the defence of democracy and toward global peace, but as apparent “ritual sacrifices” to the messianic Eugenic ideology of America’s ruling elites. The War on Terrorism appears to being used as a pseudonym for a Eugenics War, that seeks to use the pre-text of terrorists, to execute genocide against Iraqis, through the exploitation of and the “sacrifice” of more than 73,000 U.S. military personnel.

What military spending is doing to our economy

Daily Kos
March 31, 2008

Massive federal deficits, not enough money for social programs. Where have all our tax dollars gone? The charts below (click for full page versions) show how our income tax dollars were spent in FY2007, which ended last September 30 (data from Budget of the United States Government: Historical Tables Fiscal Year 2009, Table 8.7). As you can see, 52.7% of these discretionary funds went to the military.

These charts exclude expenditures for Social Security, Medicare, and federal highways since these programs are paid from dedicated taxes maintained in separate trust funds. They also exclude interest paid on the national debt since that spending is “mandatory”, not “discretionary”. These charts show the part of the federal budget that Congress and the President directly allocate each year (with the funds derived from our income taxes, corporation taxes, excise taxes, estate and gift taxes, and other miscellaneous taxes).

Video Shows Feds Firing On Ed Brown Supporter

Video Shows Feds Firing On Ed Brown’s Dog Walker Last Summer

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
March 28, 2008

A newly released video has corroborated the account of Danny Riley, a supporter of income tax protesters Ed and Elaine Brown, who claimed that he was fired at by US federal agents hiding in the woods outside the Brown’s New Hampshire home last Summer.

Infowars and Prisonplanet extensively covered the events in Plainfield, N.H. last year, where Ed and Elaine Brown remained in their home for months, refusing to face trial and subsequent conviction on charges of non-payment of income taxes.

The couple were arrested peacefully last August, after the long stand off, when agents infiltrated the property posing as supporters.

The new video, shot by the feds on June 7th, shows men in full jungle camouflage gear, lining the approach to the Brown’s driveway as Riley approaches walking their dog.

After recognizing the dog’s awareness of someone in the area, Riley surveys the scene for a few minutes before the camouflaged agents are discovered and reveal themselves.

As Riley turns and runs, one of the agents clearly fires a shot, you can see the long gun and a burst of smoke.

After Riley was caught and tased several times he was arrested and interrogated for several hours. When the authorities let him go he videoed a personal testimony of what had happened and posted it on the internet, despite having been threatened with a lengthy prison sentence should he talk to the media.

Riley stated that after yelling to ask what one man was doing, another man in camouflage popped up in front of Riley and yelled “freeze” after which Riley turned and ran.

“At that point, a round went down range right by my head – I heard it whiz by me – I was screaming at the top of my lungs – don’t shoot me, don’t shoot me I’m unarmed,” Riley said.

It became clear that Riley had averted a planned siege that was only aborted after his disappearance gave the Browns early warning that militarized police and SWAT teams were descending on their home.

U.S. Marshals downplayed the entire incident and denied any kind of siege was being planned. They also denied that any shots had been fired, a claim which now clearly appears to be false.

Read the Prisonplanet report from June 8th.

Watch the newly released video of agents firing at Riley:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvYdjSQdRd4

The video, which was provided to Riley’s legal defense team, was subsequently acquired by Ridley Report and posted to Youtube.

As the commentator states, supporters of the Browns who have viewed the video have pointed out a major issue with the footage.

As the federal agents are discovered by the dog, the footage reverts to a low resolution for the remainder of the video. Supporters have highlighted that this could hide critical details.

Riley is currently standing trial on charges of conspiring with two other men to “help federal fugitives evade capture”, providing weapons and handling explosives. If convicted Riley, along with Jason Gerhard and Cirino Gonzalez, faces years behind bars.

So far the court has been provided emails and heard recordings of Riley and the other men, which the prosecution says prove their intent to acquire weapons and instigate violence at the Brown property.

However, there has been no forensic evidence showing weapons and explosives were handled by any of the men.

The Defense attorneys have argued that the men left the Browns’ house months before federal agents searched the property. The situation escalated in the final months of the standoff, the attorneys said, and not one of the men was there when the weapons were found.

Most of the audio recordings were of various calls to radio shows in which Riley and the others refer to the standoff as “the beginning of the revolution to take the country back from those thieving international bankers” and “the new world order”.

One in particular was a call Riley made regarding an incident after he had returned to the Browns’ home in late July when he reported 30-40 shots being fired in what was a probable attempt at provocation to goad the Browns and their supporters into a violent response.

The trial seems to hinge on proving that the men and the Browns were intent on causing violence. The fact remains, however, that no violent provocation was ever carried out by them or on their behalf. The evidence shows that the same cannot be said of the federal agents involved in the case.

The trial is expected to conclude in around two weeks time.

Oil hits record near $112 as dollar slumps

Herald Tribune

March 17, 2008

Oil rose to a record near $112 on Monday as a surprise weekend cut in the Federal Reserve discount rate and the sale of stricken U.S. investment bank Bear Stearns sent the dollar to all-time lows.

U.S. crude for April hit a fresh high of $111.80 a barrel. It was trading $1.15 up at $111.36 a barrel by 9:15 a.m.

May London Brent crude was $1.28 higher at $107.48.

“The recent oil prices have been swayed by the currency moves, including this latest rally to a record,” said Tony Nunan, risk management executive at Tokyo-based Mitsubishi. “The dollar weakness is the factor at the moment.”

Euro touches $1.59, Current Price $1.57

RTE Business

March 17, 2008

The dollar plunged to a fresh record low against the euro this morning as fears about the health of the US economy escalated.

Dealers said an emergency rate cut by the US Federal Reserve only added to the sense of crisis after the near-collapse of US bank Bear Stearns.

The euro struck a new peak of $1.5905 in Tokyo, up from $1.5669 late on Friday in New York. It later slipped back to $1.5770 in volatile European trading amid speculation that central banks could step in to halt the dollar’s decline.

The euro also moved above 78p against sterling.

Ron Paul: Bernanke Deliberately Destroying Dollar

Ron Paul: Bernanke Deliberately Destroying Dollar
Congressman schools Fed chairman again during House Financial Services Committee meeting, warns “history is against you”

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
February 27, 2008

Congressman Ron Paul slammed Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke during a House Financial Services Committee meeting today for following a policy of deliberately destroying the dollar and wiping out the American middle class.

Paul held Bernanke to task over his refusal to address the decline of the dollar and its clear link to inflation.

“Inflation comes from the unwise increase in the supply of money credit….to argue that we can continue to debase the currency, which is really the policy of that you’re following, purposely debasing value of currency – which to me seems so destructive….it just puts more pressure on the federal reserve to create capital out of thin air in order to stimulate the economy and usually that just goes into mal-investment,” said Paul.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yybFGh1sUcQ

Paul highlighted the fact that the M3 money supply was rising at a rate of 16 per cent and that this was the real rate of inflation.

“History is against you,” Paul told Bernanke, “History is on the side of hard money – if you look at stable prices you have to look at the only historic sound money that’s lasted more than a few years – fiat money always ends, gold is the only thing where you get stable prices,” he added, pointing out that despite the price of oil’s rapid ascent, it had remained flat when compared to the price of gold.

“I cannot see how we can continue to accept the policy of deliberately destroying the value of money as an economic value,” said Paul, adding that the policy was “immoral,” and would lead to a reduction in American’s living standards and “the middle class being wiped out.”

Asked how he could defend a policy of deliberately depreciating the dollar, Bernanke stumbled through his response and was basically forced to agree with Paul’s point.

Paul’s comments come on the day that the dollar hit its all time low against the Euro.

Earlier this week, former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan laid the groundwork for the further collapse of the greenback by encouraging Gulf states to abandon their dollar peg.

Ron Paul Holds Texas Rally, Over 7,000 Show

Ron Paul Holds Texas Rally, Over 7,000 Show

Ron Paul 2008

What thrilling rallies we’ve just had in Texas. First there were the Students for Ron Paul at the University of Texas in Austin. The media said 4,000 came. Our people think there were more like 7,000. In any event, it was a very enthusiastic gathering of our revolutionaries, as even the media admitted.

You will not be surprised to know that the young people there cheered the pure message of liberty: no preemptive wars, no Federal Reserve, no income tax, no police state, no drug war. Just American liberty and the Constitution, in the tradition of the framers.

But the rally in Killeen, though much smaller, may have been just as significant. Killeen is near Fort Hood, and among the 300 people who attended were many active-duty soldiers (though not in uniform) and their families. Whether it was the young man going back to Iraq for his fourth tour, or the sister of a soldier just killed there, they all wanted change in our foreign policy. Most heartbreaking was the young mother who asked for a signed copy of the Constitution for her son, “who will never know his dad.” He too was just killed in Iraq.

How can we ask one young American to die for a neocon empire? The soldiers and their families agree with us, which is why our campaign gets more financial support from active-duty and retired military than all the rest combined. They want to defend America, not be part of some globalist scheme to take away our country’s independence. And by the way, at both rallies, nobody was for the monstrous Trans-Texas Corridor or the North American Union.

Coming up soon are the Texas and Ohio primaries, with others like Pennsylvania not long afterwards. We are contesting every one, and we will be heard at the Republican national convention in Minneapolis and beyond. A substantial minority of Americans in all parties, not to speak of Independents, agree with you and me. Until November and beyond, I want to work to turn that minority into a majority, with your help. https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/

Sincerely,

Ron

Ron Paul Trouncing Neo-Con Rival In Race For Congressional Seat
Peden campaign putting out fake numbers when in reality 80 per cent of District have never even heard of him

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
February 26, 2008

Ron Paul’s Neo-Con rival Chris Peden has resorted to putting out fake poll numbers in a crass attempt to offset the fact that Paul is trouncing him in the race for Texas’ District 14 Congressional seat.

According to Ron Paul’s congressional campaign manager Mark Elam, the Congressman holds a healthy 72% to 11% lead over Peden, up from 60% last month following the purchase of $400,000 worth of TV ads now running in the district.

In addition, District 14 polls show that 80 per cent of residents have never even heard of Peden.

Asked why Peden’s office was putting out false polls showing him 10 points ahead of Paul, Elam said, “Our Democratic opponent said the same thing last year – I think we won by 20 points. These guys are doing so poorly that they have to put out false numbers.”

I have personally overseen 4 different political surveys in district 14 in recent weeks,” writes Elam, “All 4 surveys have shown the same results: Ron Paul has a high favorable rating and high marks on his job approval. And if the election were held today, 60+ percent of the GOP voters say they would vote to reelect Ron Paul, while only 18-20% chose Peden. The remaining 20% or so say they are undecided or refuse to give an answer to these scientific and statistically accurate surveys.”

Chris Peden’s Neo-Con platform brazenly advocates occupying the Middle East for “the remainder of the century,” maintaining a close alliance with Israel, and spending taxpayer’s money on imperial expansionism, including the continued occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq.

Since such positions are anathema to the Constitution and the vision of the founding fathers, it’s no surprise that Ron Paul is set to hammer Peden and has dwarfed his fundraising, raking in $500,000 in the past month compared to Peden’s pathetic $20,000.

The Ron Paul campaign recently decided to shift some campaigning efforts into safeguarding Paul’s Congressional seat after Peden broke a promise not to run against Paul during his presidential bid.

IRS Told 7-Year Old Boy He Owes Taxes

Raw Story
February 23, 2008

Police in a Chicago suburb say the Internal Revenue Service has told a 7-year-old boy he owes back taxes on $60,000 because someone else has been using the youngster’s identity to collect wages and unemployment benefits.

Officers in suburban Carpentersville said Friday the second-grader’s identity has been in use by someone else since 2001.

Detectives have filed a felony identity theft charge against 29-year-old Cirilo Centeno of Streamwood, Ill.

They accuse Centeno of using the boy’s personal information to collect more than $60,000 in pay and services while working three jobs. They say he also used the boy’s ID to buy a truck, pay bills and even collect unemployment benefits.

Now the taxman can bug your home and phone calls to catch payment dodgers

UK Daily Mail
February 24, 2008

Tax inspectors have been given wideranging new powers to bug people’s homes and private phone calls.

They also have the go-ahead to intercept emails and plant listening devices in suspects’ cars and offices.

The move is the latest expansion of surveillance powers which, until recently, were only available to the police and intelligence services.

Revenue officers used to work to a set of strict rules that even banned them from looking in cupboards at a home or business during a visit without express permission.

But now officials investigating allegations of tax evasion can pry into every aspect of a suspect’s life in the hunt for evidence.

Senior revenue officials have been given the power to sanction the use of surveillance techniques under the same rules that govern the work of MI5, GCHQ and the police.

IRS Auctions Off Ed Brown’s Possessions

Nashua Telegraph
February 8, 2008

An Internal Revenue Service auction of tax evader Elaine Brown’s possessions netted the government nearly $80,000.

A Queens, N.Y., man placed the winning $32,250 bid for a 32.15-ounce bar of Engelhard gold. Peter Rhee intends to give the golden prize to his three grown children as an investment, he said.

The IRS seized the gold bar and other valuables from Brown after she and her husband, Ed Brown, surrendered to federal agents last fall after a standoff in which the couple threatened to use violence if the government invaded their Plainfield property.

Wesley Snipes Beats the IRS
Found not guilty of Federal tax-fraud charges, but convicted on 3 misdemeanor counts

AP
February 1, 2008

Fbiiraqisbein_mn

Action star Wesley Snipes was found not guilty of federal tax-fraud and conspiracy charges Friday, but was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return.

Snipes had faced up to 16 years in prison if convicted on all charges, but can now only get up to three years. The “Blade” star and two co- defendants had been indicted in 2006 after Snipes stopped paying, using tax protest arguments long rejected by the courts.

Snipes sat emotionless as his verdict was read, then nodded in relief. He refused to talk with reporters after the verdict, and is still liable for millions in taxes likely to be pursued in civil court.

“Mr. Snipes has always been committed to doing the right thing, and after this trial is over he’ll make whatever amends are required,” defense attorney Robert Bernhoft said. “But this is a man of integrity.”

Snipes’ lawyers argued that he was a victim of crooked advisers, and the jury seemed to believe it. Co-defendants Eddie Ray Kahn, the founder of a tax protest group, and Douglas P. Rosile, an accountant who lost his licenses, were convicted Friday by the same panel of tax fraud and conspiracy. Both face up to 10 years in prison.

The government said Snipes failed to file tax returns from 1999 to a period in which he signed two contracts for more than $10 million on sequels in the “Blade” trilogy.

The actor, who also appeared in “White Men Can’t Jump,” is among the most famous targets of an IRS criminal investigation, and his prosecution was key for the government.

“We thought there was sufficient evidence for a conviction on all counts, but obviously the jury disagreed,” U.S. Attorney Robert O’Neill said.

Snipes used bizarre arguments to justify his position, saying the IRS’ own code meant income earned in this country wasn’t taxable, and the agency had no legal authority because it’s not a proper government entity.

Later, the actor threatened the government and individual agents in his pursuit, declaring himself a “nonresident alien” not subject to tax laws.

Prosecutors say Snipes paid taxes in the 1990s, but changed his mind after meeting Kahn in 2000. He allegedly stopped filing returns, illegally sought $11 million in 1996 and 1997 taxes paid and drew fake checks to pay the U.S. Treasury.

Kahn founded the central Florida tax protest group American Rights Litigators and its successor, Guiding Light of God Ministries. He has been using tax scams since at least the early 1980s, according to government documents, and refused to defend himself in court against these charges.

Rosile, a CPA who lost his licenses in Florida and Ohio, allegedly prepared the fraudulent documents for Snipes, along with numerous other Kahn clients.

Judge and jury have long rejected their ideas, but there were exceptions.

The IRS bears a unique burden of proof in criminal tax cases. It must show not only that someone broke the law, but he or she did so with willful, bad purpose to defraud the government.

A few defendants have won acquittal because the jury thought they sincerely believed they did not have to pay.

Ron Paul Comes In 2nd In Louisiana

Ron Paul Comes In 2nd In Louisiana

Fbiiraqisbein_mn

Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul enjoys yet another second place finish in a state caucus. This time it’s Louisiana.

The Louisiana contest, however, is not a battleground state in the race for the Republican nomination as candidates have focused on bigger prizes in South Carolina and Florida.

Fred Thompson dropping out of the race helped boost Paul’s vote count.

If Thompson had still been in the race, a Louisiana political source explained to NR, his state delegate strength in Louisiana would have been enough to potentially get him all of the state’s 47 national delegates. The one big problem, though, is that he dropped out only hours before he finally won something.

John McCain won the state Tuesday.

Paul Raises Nearly $2M On MLK Day

FMNN
January 22, 2008

It’s been a great few days to be a supporter of Ron Paul, and not only because of the successful fundraising day or our great second-place showing in Nevada.

On the endorsement front, Ron Paul has won the support of three significant public figures in the last two days.

Yesterday, former New Mexico Governor Gary “Veto” Johnson announced that he is supporting Dr. Paul for president. Governor Johnson is an icon to small-government conservatives and libertarians for his long-standing commitment to the principles of the Founders. You can read our press release here.

This morning, Ron Paul also received the glowing endorsement of Donald L. Luskin, a prominent financial commentator on CNBC and Chief Investment Officer for Trend Macrolytics LLC. You can read Don’s editorial in National Review about why Ron Paul is right for America here.

Finally, Dr. Paul hosted a press conference this morning with well-known pro-life activist Norma McCorvey, better known as ‘Jane Roe’ from the infamous Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade. Much more good news about the campaign is coming soon.

Tax Rebates Urged To Rescue Economy

Tax Rebates Urged To Rescue Economy
Do they really think spending your rebate check on a flat-screen is going to help the economy?

AP
January 17, 2008

Fbiiraqisbein_mn

United for urgent action, the White House and Congress raced toward emergency steps Thursday to rescue the national economy from a possible recession, including tax rebates of at least $300 a person — and maybe as much as $800. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke endorsed the idea of putting money into the hands of those who would spend it quickly and boost the flagging economy.

All the talk of rescue efforts failed to soothe Wall Street. The Dow Jones industrials plunged 306.95 points, underscoring deepening concern about the country’s economic health.

The sudden scramble to take action came as fears mounted that a severe housing slump and a painful credit crisis could cause people to clamp down on their spending and businesses to put a lid on hiring, throwing the country into its first recession since 2001.

President Bush told congressional leaders privately he favors income tax rebates for people and tax breaks for businesses, officials said. Bush spoke with congressional leaders as House aides worked behind the scenes on an emergency package that could also include more money for food stamp recipients and the unemployed.

Aides to lawmakers involved in the talks said the White House is pressing for tax rebates of $800 for individuals and $1,600 for married couples. Lawmakers were likely to settle on a $500 rebate for individuals, said an aide involved in the talks, with details for couples and people with children still being negotiated.

U.S. economy teeters on the brink

Globe & Mail
January 19 2008

In a bid to save the world’s largest economy from recession, U.S. President George W. Bush and central bank chief Ben Bernanke yesterday endorsed a $100-billion stimulus package as the spreading housing mess continued to hammer banks, consumers and investors.

The rare plug for fiscal action comes as a growing number of economists say the United States is either in recession or perilously close to it. “The United States has now effectively entered into a serious and painful recession,” said economist Nouriel Roubini of New York University.

Prof. Roubini said all of the keys to economic health are headed in the wrong direction, including the housing market, credit availability, the job market and business spending. Add to that a run-up in oil and gas prices, and the consumer is likely to take it on the chin in 2008, he said.

7-Year Plan Aligns Europe With U.S. Economy

World Net Daily
January 16, 2008

Six U.S. senators and 49 House members are advisers for a group working toward a Transatlantic Common Market between the U.S. and the European Union by 2015.

The Transatlantic Policy Network – a non-governmental organization headquartered in Washington and Brussels – is advised by the bi-partisan congressional TPN policy group, chaired by Sen. Robert Bennett, R-Utah.

The plan – currently being implemented by the Bush administration with the formation of the Transatlantic Economic Council in April 2007 – appears to be following a plan written in 1939 by a world-government advocate who sought to create a Transatlantic Union as an international governing body.

An economist from the World Bank has argued in print that the formation of the Transatlantic Common Market is designed to follow the blueprint of Jean Monnet, a key intellectual architect of the European Union, recognizing that economic integration must inevitably lead to political integration.

Wesley Snipes to fight IRS

NY Times

January 14, 2008

Fbiiraqisbein_mn

From 1999 to 2004, the actor Wesley Snipes earned $38 million appearing in more than half a dozen movies, including two sequels to his popular vampire thriller “Blade.”

The taxes he paid in the same period? Zero.

But unlike other celebrities who find themselves on the wrong side of the Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Snipes has a flamboyant explanation: he argues that he is not actually required to pay taxes.

Mr. Snipes, who is scheduled to go on trial Monday in Ocala, Fla., has become an unlikely public face for the antitax movement, whose members maintain that Americans are not obligated to pay income taxes and that the government extracts taxes from its citizens illegally.

His trial has become the most prominent income tax prosecution since the 1989 conviction of the billionaire New York hotelier, Leona Helmsley, who went to prison for improperly billing personal expenses to her business.

Former IRS agent convicted of failing to pay taxes
Stone Mountain woman testifies she believes she wasn’t required to file returns

Atlanta Journal-Constitution
October 31, 2007

Sherry Peel Jackson, a former IRS revenue agent and certified public accountant, told a federal jury Tuesday she was sure she did not have to file income tax returns.

But after less than 30 minutes of deliberations, the jury convicted Jackson of failing to file income tax returns for four years, despite an income of more than $400,000 during that time, according to prosecutors.

The Stone Mountain woman faces a maximum of four years in prison. She will be sentenced early next year.

Jackson, 45, did not fit the typical profile of a criminal defendant. She worked as a revenue agent from 1988 to 1995 and then as an accountant.

But in July 2000, Jackson testified, she began to question whether she had to pay income taxes. By the following year, she decided she was not going to file a tax return.

Sitting at the witness stand, with large books of federal regulations and the tax code in front of her, Jackson said she could not find any section of the tax code that held her liable for income taxes.

“I’d done a lot of research and I was just about sure,” she testified. “I did not have to file an income tax return.”

During cross-examination, assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Langway read Section 1 of the tax code to Jackson, who is married. A tax is imposed on “every married individual,” Langway read, asking Jackson how she could not be an individual.

“I couldn’t find the definition of ‘individual,’ ” Jackson replied.

Lowell H. Becraft Jr., one of Jackson’s attorneys, told jurors they should not convict her of willfully disobeying the law because Jackson had a “good faith” reason to believe she did not have to file taxes. He reminded the jury Jackson attended Tuskegee University in Alabama and the University of Georgia, raised a family and lived the life of an ordinary American.

“You may have never heard of this before,” Becraft said. “To you, it may sound wild. It may sound crazy. … But she believes she’s not required to file tax returns.”

Langway called Jackson’s reasoning “cockamamie” and “absurd.”

“She’s an ‘individual’ — she knows that,” Langway said. “You should disbelieve everything she said.”

Jackson was once entrusted with protecting IRS laws when she served as a revenue agent, Rodney Clarke, IRS criminal investigation special agent in charge, said in a statement.

The verdict, he said, “indicates that she knew exactly what she was doing when she stopped filing her own individual tax returns. While taxpayers such as Ms. Jackson have the right to contest their tax liabilities in the courts, taxpayers do not have the right to violate and disobey tax laws. The law establishing the requirement to file tax returns is crystal clear.”

Ron Paul Gaining Ground In New Hampshire

Ron Paul Gaining Ground In New Hampshire
New poll proves mainstream dismissal of congressman’s presidential campaign is foolhardy

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
October 29, 2007

A newly released presidential primary preference poll indicates that Ron Paul is gaining significant ground in New Hampshire and dispels the mainstream media myth that the Congressman is not amongst the top tier candidates.

The poll, conducted by St. Anselm College’s Institute of Politics, puts Ron Paul 4th behind Giuliani, McCain and Romney with 7.4 percent. It places Fred Thompson, touted as second favourite to take the GOP nomination, in 6th place.

The poll also shows that 40 percent describe themselves as “independents” who may vote Republican, and 19 percent who will, are still undecided. Ron Paul’s campaign staff are encouraged by these figures as they show that none of the other big name candidates have grasped the imagination of voters, leaving the door very much open for the Congressman.

Paul’s campaign office is about to embark on a major media blitz in New Hampshire, readying phone banks to call potential Ron Paul supporters throughout the state and major TV ads, such as the one below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay4vXZWxeuU

Congressman Paul, who filed his declaration of candidacy to run in the New Hampshire presidential primary at the State house in Concord last week, is also scheduled to make an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tomorrow night.

Recent poll results from public opinion service Rasmussen Reports also indicate that support for Ron Paul could be much higher nationwide, placing him above Giuliani in some instances.

“By all accounts, Dr. Paul’s support is rising steadily,” said Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder. “Americans are ready for a change and his unifying message of freedom, peace and prosperity is bringing more people together every day.”

Tax Evaders’ Property Now in Feds’ Hands

Tax Evaders’ Property Now in Feds’ Hands

AP

October 19, 2007

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — The property where two tax evaders holed up for months refusing to surrender and serve prison sentences has been cleared of explosives and seized by the federal government.

Explosives teams needed two weeks to find, remove and blow up a large number of homemade bombs and dismantle booby traps, U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said Thursday. The wooded, 110-acre property in Plainfield includes a solar- and wind-powered home.

Ed and Elaine Brown had holed up there since walking out of their federal trial in January. They were arrested this month by federal agents who posed as supporters. They are now serving 5-year prison sentences.

Elaine Brown’s dental office in nearby Lebanon also was seized by the Treasury Department. The properties may be sold to cover the Browns’ unpaid federal income taxes. They were convicted of hiding $1.9 million in income between 1996 and 2003 to avoid paying the federal income tax, which they believe is not legitimate.

The seized properties are posted with “No Trespassing — Government Property” signs, and federal authorities warned that anyone attempting to enter without permission can be arrested.

The Browns’ standoff was sustained by stores of food, supplies from supporters and a fan base stoked by postings on the Internet.

Four of their supporters have been charged with helping the Browns evade arrest. The cases were reassigned this week to U.S. District Court in Portland, Maine, after federal judges in New Hampshire recused themselves.

Ed Brown is serving his prison term in Elkton, Ohio, and Elaine Brown in Danbury, Conn. Authorities say the Browns could face new charges related to the standoff.

Ed Brown Gassed, Tortured in Deprivation Tank. Tax protester speaks for first time since arrest in prison phone call

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
October 17, 2007

In a disturbing audio clip, Ed Brown speaks for the first time since his arrest and relates how he was gassed by noxious fumes for three days in a detention center as well as being put in a deprivation tank for 15 hours.

Shaun Kranish of MaketheStand.com was able to call the Ohio prison that Brown has been incarcerated in and talk with him on the phone for 10 minutes.

Sensory deprivation is a form of torture and extended deprivation can result in extreme anxiety, hallucinations, bizarre thoughts, depression, and antisocial behavior.

Brown also said he had been prevented from making any phone calls or receiving mail.

For the first time, Brown reveals what happened when he was tricked and arrested by U.S. Marshals, including how he was tasered multiple times.

Brown said that he had a chance to fight back during the arrest but that he did not want to hurt anyone.

Brown said his captors were treating him with “professional cruelty” and mentioned that they had also done harrowing things to his wife following her arrest, but refused to go into detail.

“I guess Ed and Elaine Brown, the elderly couple, really rattled their cages, we must be a real terror to the federal government, the corporate structure,” said Brown.

Following our article about Ed Brown supporters fearing Brown was being mistreated or tortured, U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier dismissed it, saying, “That’s absolutely ludicrous.”

If what Ed Brown relates in the audio clip is true, it’s abundantly clear that he is being cruelly mistreated.

Ed Brown delivered to federal prison in Ohio

Associated Press
October 10, 2007

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A convicted New Hampshire tax evader is now at his new home — a federal prison in Ohio.

Stephen Monier, the U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire, says Ed Brown of Plainfield arrived earlier today at the low security Federal Correctional Institution in Elkton, Ohio.

Monier says Brown had not spent time in any New Hampshire jail since being arrested last week, but had been staying at undisclosed locations under the watch of marshal’s deputies en route to prison. Elaine Brown began serving her sentence earlier this week at the Federal Correction Institution in Danbury, Conn., a minimum-security prison for women.

Officers arrested the Browns last week at their hilltop home in Plainfield. Their monthslong exile began after they abandoned their trial in January. In April they each were sentenced to 63 months in prison but refused to report to authorities.

Armed Feds Question Bloggers In Brown Case

Armed Feds Question Bloggers In Brown Case

Manhunt ensues as Marshals search for alleged “hit list”

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
October 9, 2007

Armed federal agents paid a visit to blogger Michael Hampton’s home on Friday, detaining everyone inside the house for 90 minutes, to ask questions about an alleged hit list of federal judges in relation to supposed revenge attacks in the aftermath of the Ed and Elaine Brown arrests.

The visit was part of a manhunt taking place in and around Manchester, New Hampshire, which also ensnared members of the Free State Project who had protested on behalf of the Browns.
“Marshal John Bolen of the U.S. Marshals Office of Protective Intelligence traveled to Manchester, N.H., to investigate threats of violence allegedly made against Steven McAuliffe, a federal judge in the district court in Concord, and other federal officials in the area. He brought along with him other marshals and agents who would only say that they were with the Treasury Department,” writes Hampton in his account of the incident.

In the following You Tube video, Dave Ridley traveled to Hampton’s home in the immediate aftermath of the incident in which armed federal agents wearing body armor demanded answers about alleged plans for violent revenge attacks despite the fact that Hampton has never advocated violence in any of his blogs about the Brown case.

Feds made it clear to those detained that if any violence did later occur “it would be on their heads.”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9Ws4aZ3ja0

Later, plain clothed Marshals arrived at a local bar to question Ivy Ancram about her roommate, Rob Jacobs, who the feds were seeking regarding the alleged plot to kill government agents. After telling the feds that she didn’t know where Jacobs was, the officials warned her that she could be arrested if she was lying or withholding information and also offered her cash in return for information on Jacobs’ whereabouts, according to Ancram.Marshals told Ancram that if Jacobs did not contact them within 24 hours they would put out a warrant for his arrest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSTALQwJrrU

Jacobs later returned to Manchester and arranged to meet with the Marshals but they failed to show up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3D-v6LaR4I

Hampton questioned the Feds on why they chose to visit the home of a blogger who has never advocated violence in light of a new report criticizing marshals for their failure to protect federal judges and investigate genuine threats of violence against them.

“A report (PDF) released Wednesday by the Department of Justice Inspector General found that marshals’ efforts to protect federal judges had “languished,” with growing backlogs of threats to be assessed and investigated, and improper assessment of threats leading to misallocation of resources,” writes Hampton.

“So, apparently unable or unwilling to face the people who have said they want to shoot government agents, they came to my house instead. And misallocation of resources certainly seems to describe Friday’s incidents,” he added.

Jacobs, Ancram and Hampton all strongly emphasized the fact that they are totally opposed to any violence arising out of the arrests of Ed and Elaine Brown.

It has been rumored that some militant supporters of the Browns have threatened revenge attacks. We would like to remind those people that their actions are completely abhorrent and will only bring untold misery to legitimate peaceful supporters of the Browns who are highlighting the case as part of a process of educating the public about the IRS and the illegal income tax.

Meanwhile, Ed Brown remains “in transit,” leading many of his supporters to fear he is being mistreated or tortured. However, Steve Monier, U.S. marshal for New Hampshire, is set to disclose the location of the prison at which Brown will begin his 63 month as early as today, according to reports.

Federal officials have refused to divulge the location of tax protester Ed Brown who was arrested on Friday, prompting many of his supporters to fear that Brown has been disappeared into a black hole and is being mistreated or even tortured.

Brown and his wife Elaine were arrested on Friday after U.S. Marshals posing as supporters gained access to their Plainfield home and apprehended the couple.
“Elaine Brown is serving her 63-month sentence in the Federal Correctional Institute in Danbury, Conn., a minimum prison facility for women, according to Steve Monier (pictured above), U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire,” reports the Union Leader.

But Monier refused to say where Ed Brown was being held, only that he remains “in transit”, and also ignored questions about why there was a delay in transporting him to the prison where he will serve his sentence, the identity of which remains unknown.

This led supporters of Brown to make their concerns known that he could be undergoing brutal interrogation and torture at the hands of vengeful Feds embarrassed at Brown’s taunting of them during the 6 month stand-off.

“Let them know Ed has not been handed over to the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) yet! We don’t know if he’s alive, in good health, where he is, why he hasn’t been handed over (there is NO good reason for this). We can only assume they’re torturing him for information, giving him “diesel therapy” and other things, like they did to Congressman Hansen!!!,” reads a posting on Ed Brown’s official website.

Supporters fear that Brown is being transported from prison to prison and being forced to sit in the same position for hours at a time while heavily shackled, causing painful circulation problems and nerve damage. This was a form of torture inflicted by Federal Marshals on Congressman George Hansen, who served four years in jail for alleged IRS infractions before being declared innocent by the U. S. Supreme Court.

“Each day the metal shackles are put back onto raw and infected legs before the prisoner boards the bus. After weeks and months of diesel therapy, the ankles and shins have raw, infected and open wounds that will not heal,” reads the website.

“Hour after hour, the prisoner sits in a cramped & painful position, with shackles cutting into already infected, raw flesh. Arthritis and bursitis compound the misery of the prisoners. The ingrown, infected toenails, which are jammed inside of purposely small shoes, cripple the prisoner to the point that he can barely walk or move when he is finally released from the shackles.”

Brown’s supporters are urging the general public to call the U.S. Marshal’s office in New Hampshire and and ask them to locate Brown.

The number is 603-225-1632.
“Take down names, employee numbers, dates/times to reference the call, whatever you can to have a record! DEMAND for answers! They’ve got Ed like they always wanted, why isn’t he handed over to the prison? WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO HIM? HOW IS HE BEING TREATED?!?!,” reads the website.

Experts Say More Charges Likely for Browns

Concord Monitor
October 07, 2007

In many ways, the Ed and Elaine Brown show is over. We will not be able to hear them speak daily on the online Ed Brown Under Siege radio show. We will not see fliers for their parties or see the latest video from a “freedom festival” on their Plainfield property.

But Ed and Elaine Brown’s story is far from over. The Plainfield tax protesters, who promised their followers an apocalyptic shootout with marshals and were instead arrested quietly Thursday, will likely face a raft of new charges and see many of their key supporters prosecuted, said experts who have watched the case.

On Friday, U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said the Browns were in transit to federal prisons where they would begin serving 63-month sentences for tax-related charges. They were convicted in January of conspiring to hide Elaine Brown’s dental income from authorities, but managed to avoid serving time for nearly nine months, as they rallied antigovernment support and holed up in their well-equipped home.

So far, the Browns have faced no legal sanctions for their behavior, which included issuing explicit threats against judges, prosecutors and local law enforcement figures, stockpiling weapons, and assembling a barrage of improvised explosives devices, according to court documents and statements from Monier. But in a press briefing Friday, Monier suggested that the Browns will face new charges for that conduct.

“Unfortunately, the Browns have turned this into more than just a tax case,” Monier said. “By their continuing actions, allegedly, to obstruct justice, to encourage others to assist them to obstruct justice, by making threats toward law enforcement and other government officials, they have turned this into more than a tax case.”

Several experts who watch the tax protest movement said the Browns could face a range of new charges, including conspiring to impede the marshals, illegal weapons possessions, criminal threatening, obstruction of justice and possession of explosives.

“I don’t realistically think they are ever going to see each other again, except in the next trial,” said JJ MacNab, a tax evasion expert who has been following the Brown case for a book on the tax protest movement.
During the standoff, the Browns missed a key court deadline, which means they will not be able to appeal their convictions on the tax crimes.

Four of the Browns’ supporters arrested in September will also be tried soon. Jason Gerhard, Cirino Gonzalez, Daniel Riley and Robert Wolffe were all accused of aiding and abetting the couple. Gerhard, Gonzalez and Riley were also charged with conspiring to impede the marshals and harm the government, and with possessing weapons in relation to a crime of violence. The weapons charges carry mandatory minimum sentences; Gerhard, who faces the most counts, could be sentenced to more than 125 years in prison if he is convicted.

Their trials, which are likely to be delayed, are currently scheduled for early November.

New arrests may be on the horizon. Monier said Friday that his office would continue to investigate those who helped the Browns before and will monitor supporters for retaliatory action now that the couple is in custody. Several high-profile Brown supporters, including two men who lived with the couple for weeks and one who raised money for their cause, have not been arrested.

The Browns may also live on in the tax-protest movement, which seized the Brown case as a critical example of government injustice. The Browns maintained to the end that there was no law making them liable for federal income taxes, and their stand brought national attention to that perspective. The couple’s MySpace page attracted more than 5,000 “friends,” many of whom have embraced the Browns’ anti-tax views.

“People are tired of this bs that’s being shoveled at them,” said John Stadtmiller, a radio host and former militia leader, who said he was relieved that the Browns were not harmed by marshals. “They want answers, they want justice, and this is going to continue.”

Speculation Mounts That Browns Were Infiltrated, Tricked
Tax protesters arrested, but “did not surrender” according to reports, leading many to guess Ed and Elaine were taken by surprise and violently subdued before they could resist

Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet
October 5, 2007

Speculation is rife that the Browns were infiltrated and tricked before being violently subdued as authorities refuse to provide any details behind their arrest beside the fact that they did not peacefully surrender.

Observers were both saddened and confused about the announcement of the arrest of tax protesters Ed and Elaine Brown last night. Though none of us wanted to witness another Waco, we were all well aware of the fact that the Browns have stated on numerous occasions that they would not be arrested without a fight and would rather die than go to jail.

This prompted many to question how U.S. Marshals were able to seize the Browns with apparently little response, leading some to conclude that Ed and Elaine were tricked by one or more supporters whom they had taken into their confidence.

Posts on messageboards overnight feared that the Browns had been taken by surprise, violently subdued and probably shocked numerous times with Taser weapons before they even had a chance to resist. The rumor mill is in high gear because officials have refused to provide any information regarding the details of the arrests, though a news conference is scheduled for 10am today.

All we know at this point is that the Browns were taken into custody after being seized by U.S. Marshals on their property at around 7:45pm last night.

Neighbors reported large convoys of SUV’s approaching the property before the arrests.

“Grobe, a former patient of Elaine Brown, who used to run a dental practice, says he noticed “an unusual amount of traffic all of a sudden” passing by the house last night. He said he saw 30 to 40 cars passing by, but had no idea if it was authorities,” states an AP report.

“Neither he nor neighbor Robert Carpenter said they heard anything unusual. Carpenter said there were no marked cruisers, but a lot of large SUVs. He said he called the Plainfield Police and they called back and said what was going on.”

“We had no indication that the Browns intended to voluntarily surrender, so we had to move forward with an operation that promised the safest possible outcome. That day was today,” U.S. Marshal Stephen Monier said in a written statement.

Though the arrests occurred “without incident” and no one was injured, Monier admitted that the Browns “did not surrender,” meaning they were likely violently subdued against their will.

If an informant was used to facilitate the arrest, it would not be the first time such tactics have been employed. In June, Ed Brown outed what he claimed was a Fed who had tried to provoke the Browns into making outlandish statements and rash decisions as part of “psychological operations” on behalf of authorities.

This came shortly after an aborted raid on the Brown’s property during which supporter Danny Riley was arrested and later authorities attempted to coerce Riley into becoming an informant against the Browns. Marshals also threatened Riley with 15 years in jail unless he lied to the media and told them that the botched raid was not an attempted siege.

Ron Paul Supporters Only Have Until Oct. 12 to Register Repubilcan

Ron Paul Betting Odds Could be Impacted by New Voting Rules

Voting Rules Changed at Last Minute Will Shut out Votes for 2008 US Presidential candidate Ron Paul, according to Gambling911.com Special Contributor Jennifer Reynolds. Ms. Reynolds regularly reports on the Ron Paul campaign for the Gambling911.com website. Dr. Paul, as many of you already know, is opposed to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and there are many in the online gambling space who would love to see him get elected into office next year.

But it turns out his own party is going to make this an even more difficult task.

“Many states, in an effort to shut out Ron Paul are now closing their primaries,” reports Reynolds. “That means that only Republicans can vote in the Presidential primaries for a Republican candidate.”

And this could have a tremendous impact on Ron Paul betting odds, though probably not in the next few weeks. Ron Paul odds were slashed to 6 to 1 over this past weekend, making him a bigger favorite than Mitt Romney.

Jennifer Reynolds article in its entirety appears below. Remember to follow all the latest cutting edge Ron Paul news as it pertains to Presidential betting odds at Gambling911.com, your political betting news headquarters. Add us to your favorite websites.

—–

Ron Paul’s popularity bridges the gap between all groups. He is truly a bi-partisan politician. Republicans like him, Libertarians like him, Independents are supporting him as well as many Democrats who see his small government, anti-war stance as attractive.

Ron Paul is the first person in decades to have so many diverse groups support him. It is easy to see why: he believes in freedom and liberty for all. That includes the liberty to not have to go to war and the liberty to keep your entire paycheck. Only days ago he introduced the Tax Free Tips Act because by taxing tips, the IRS punishes workers for “doing a superior job.” People in this country are fed up with being lied to and stolen from. They want the war over with and they want it ended NOW.

Ron Paul is fast becoming the only candidate in either party to pledge to end the war. People in general are sick of having no power to do anything and the majority of Americans believe that things are going to get worse for them in the coming years, not better. But Ron Paul offers hope to change all of that. He is truly the only man for the people. What is so amazing that so many Democrats, Independents and Libertarians are planning on voting for him. For those of you that fall into that class, the established Republicans do not want you to do that and are changing rules as we speak to try to shut you out at the voting window.

Many states, in an effort to shut out Ron Paul are now closing their primaries. That means that only Republicans can vote in the Presidential primaries for a Republican candidate. Many states are doing this quickly and quietly and giving people very little time to learn about the new rules. For example, New Hampshire decided only a week ago that you will now have to change your party affiliation by October 12, 2007 or it will be too late to do so. New Hampshire also has a closed primary and only Republicans and possibly Independents will be allowed to vote for Ron Paul.

In New York, you must be registered as a Republican or you cannot vote for Ron Paul and again, you must make this decision by October 12, 2007 or it will be too late. In New York, however, Independents cannot vote for Ron Paul. Same with New Jersey and many states around the nation. I hesitate to give you a link to a site that has correct information about voting in all 50 states because I have yet to find one that does not have an error and besides, this information is changing daily, as Ron Paul gains momentum. The people in power are doing their best to shut out the multitude of voices that want to vote for Ron Paul. If you are a Ron Paul supporter, or even thinking about becoming a Ron Paul supporter, please become a registered Republican immediately so that no matter what your state does to change the rules out from under you, you will still be allowed to vote for this great man.

All of these arbitrary deadlines are designed to keep a candidate such as Ron Paul from gaining momentum and making a last minute push. Effectively, Ron Paul has until October 12, 2007 to get as many Democrats, and others to switch sides in key states like New York and New Hampshire, or they will not be able to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries. That means that the people in power have shortened the Ron Paul campaign to less than two weeks with the stroke of a pen! The Ron Paul campaign now has less than two weeks to teach people about his candidacy and his policies. As of this moment, in New Hampshire you may be registered as an Independent and still vote for Ron Paul. Not so in New York. In New York you must be a registered Republican by October 12, to vote for Ron Paul (Independents cannot vote in the primaries at all). However, for those of you in New Hampshire reading this, I wouldn’t trust that come election day the rules won’t have been changed on you again. To be safe, make sure your voter registration card says Republican.

So, all of you sitting on the fence folks, the fence is about to crumble beneath you and you will not have the ability to affect the election at all. The rules are changing all over the place for Independents. Now, if you are an Independent in New York or Arizona or New Jersey and many other states you will not be allowed to vote in any primary at all. You will only be able to sit on the sidelines and watch as other people decide for you who your choices are. So get busy! Hurry up and re-register.

In another effort to stem the rising tide of Ron Paul supporters California this week just announced that they too would close their Presidential Primary, again shutting out Independents. (Despite the fact that the voters of California voted on March 26, 1996 to be make it an open primary state). So, once again, unless you are a registered Republican you cannot vote for Ron Paul if you live in California. The only good news, is that as of this moment, the deadline to change your registration is January 21, 2008. However, I would not depend on that. If it looks like Ron Paul might win, they could move that date up too. So don’t put this off.

Arizona pulled a sneaky move on its voters. Arizona is an open primary state. That means that anyone can vote in any race – except, and here is the catch, in the Presidential Primary. How can they get away with that? Because, they don’t actually call the Presidential Primary a primary at all, it is now officially called a Presidential Preference Election. So, with that new name comes new rules. Arizona actually did this many years ago, but most of Arizona’s residents are unaware of this rule. As a result, many many people who want to vote for Ron Paul will be shut out because they think they can stay Independent orparty undeclaredand still get to vote. They will be rudely met by voting proctors who will turn them away at the door.

On top of all of this, many states are moving their primaries up earlier and earlier this year so that a come-from-behind candidate had better do his coming-from-behind in a sprint. Worse yet, if you call the official Secretary of State’s office to find out the voting rules, you are likely to get faulty information. In my tiny sampling of seven calls, five of the states gave out incorrect information that if relied upon, would result in that voter not being allowed to vote for Ron Paul. The best place to get correct information is from your state’s GOP. (But do not tell them who you are planning on voting for or they may make a mistake in the information. Beware of answers that begin with “I think…” that is almost always followed by a guess and often misinformation. Make them do the work and find out the real dates.) Here is one site that has some information, but please do not rely upon it as the rules may have changed by the time you read it. It will help you find links to places to change your registration.

It is appalling that states are allowed to change their voting rules at the last minute so most people will not hear of the change. It is more appalling that when calling an official state office you are given incorrect information. It is most appalling that millions of Ron Paul voters may not get to vote for their man because they didn’t know the rules were switched on them.

So, for all of you Ron Paul supporters out there: Switch now. Hurry. Sign up to be a Republican if you aren’t already, get that official voter registration card in hand so on primary election day no one can take away your right to vote! It doesn’t matter if right now your state is an open primary state, or they claim to allow Independents to vote, they may close it tomorrow as California just did and they may give you only three weeks to make the change as New Hampshire did. Don’t take the risk. Become Republican today. I know this is not fair. I know that the rules used to be different. I know, you may not want to be a Republican but still want to vote for Ron Paul. Please don’t let your pride and their trickery get in the way of you voting for the man you want.

And remember New Yorkers and folks from New Hampshire – You have less than two weeks left. HURRY! The deadline is October 12, October 12, October 12… make that your new mantra. Please tell all of your friends.

For you Democrats out there who wanted the war to stop only to find that your party seems content on this war lasting another decade or so, Ron Paul voted against the war in the first place and would vote to stop it the minute he took office, in January of 2009. Isn’t another 15 months enough time for this war to rage on and try to end with a “win.” I know you may not want to switch parties. But think of it this way, if you do switch, and Ron Paul loses, then that will be another Republican who abandons the party come general election day, so you can have a little taste of revenge for them making you switch parties to vote for this man. How do you know that Ron Paul won’t lie and keep this war going too? You can trust a man to behave in the future the way he has behaved in the past.

Protect your right to vote. Don’t let them steal the greatest man in history away from you before you have even learned about him. Check out the www.ronpaulportal.com to find links to many ways to learn about Ron Paul. My favorites are the Ron Paul Library link and the You Tube videos.

And they call this a democracy? Ha!

Please send this article to all that you care about. Turn this into a freedom chain letter to spread truth across the country.

Democrats propose U.S. income tax surcharge to pay for Iraq war

International Herald Tribune
October 2, 2007

Three senior House Democrats, seeking to highlight the costs of the Iraq war, proposed a U.S. income tax surcharge Tuesday to finance the approximately $150 billion (€105.8 billion) spent annually on operations in Iraq.

The plan’s sponsors acknowledged the tax measure is unlikely to pass, but Democrats have been seeking in recent weeks to contrast the approximately $190 billion (€134.1 billion) cost of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars with the $23 billion (€16.2 billion) increase that Democrats want in domestic programs.

President George W. Bush has threatened to veto most of those domestic spending bills as too expensive. Those bills were largely written by committees headed by two of the tax legislation’s sponsors.

The Democrats’ second-ranking official in the House of Representatives, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, played down the initiative as “not a policy which the Speaker or I have signed off on,” said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer.

The plan, unveiled by Reps. David Obey, John Murtha and Jim McGovern would require low-and middle-income taxpayers to add 2 percent to their tax bill. Wealthier people would add a 12 to 15 percent surcharge, Obey said.

“The war will cost future generations billions of dollars in taxes that we’re shoving off on them and it is devouring money that could be used to expand their educational opportunities, expand their job training possibilities, attack our long-term energy problems and build stronger communities,” Obey said.

Obey, who heads the House Appropriations Committee, also announced that Democrats will not pass a supplemental spending bill for the Iraq war until next year, when Democrats hope public pressure could force Bush to change the course of the war.

Democrats hope their chances of winning a battle with Bush on the war will be better next year as the election season heats up.

“The showdown is going to be in January or February,” McGovern said.

The lawmakers said the tax surcharge was similar to policies put in place to pay for the Vietnam War and World War II.

“By putting together this bill we hope people will stop ignoring what this war is costing American taxpayers and call the president’s bluff on fiscal responsibility,” Obey said.

Brown supporter faces 125 years

Margot Sanger-Katz
Concord Monitor
September 24, 2007

Jason Gerhard, one of four supporters of Ed and Elaine Brown arrested last week, faces a maximum sentence of more than 125 years if he is convicted on all charges.

Gerhard, 22, of Brookhaven, N.Y., was arraigned yesterday on an updated indictment that charges him with nine federal felonies.

The recent Army recruit, who was arrested at basic training in Missouri, chose not to enter pleas during his hearing yesterday at the New Hampshire District Court. Magistrate James Muirhead entered not guilty pleas on his behalf.

Cirino Gonzalez, 30, of Alice, Texas, the Browns’ former blogger and security guard and an alleged co-conspirator with Gerhard, also appeared in court today. He pleaded not guilty to four felonies.

Gerhard was one of several supporters who spent time living at the home of Ed and Elaine Brown, a retired exterminator and dentist who were convicted of multiple tax-related crimes in January. The Browns have been holed up in their fortified concrete home for nearly eight months, refusing to surrender and threatening violence if marshals try to arrest them.

According to his indictment, Gerhard purchased his first gun for the couple in January, about a week after Ed Brown walked out on his federal trial and announced that his home might become “another Waco.” Between January and August, he purchased a total of six weapons, the indictment says, including a high-powered .50-caliber sniper rifle, which shoots bullets capable of piercing body armor. The indictment says Gerhard lived with the Browns for several months.

During that time, Gerhard was a relatively quiet member of the Brown entourage, frequent visitors to the house said. Gerhard had one brush with local law enforcement this summer came after he hit the car of a teenage girl while shopping for the Browns in their SUV. Ed Brown described the accident as a “fender bender,” but the girl’s mother said that her daughter’s car had been totaled and that Gerhard had tried to flee the scene. Marshals impounded the Browns’ vehicle after the accident.

When marshals searched the home of Gerhard’s mother on Long Island last week, they found a pipe bomb and other weapons, according to the local police. He has not been charged with any crimes related to that finding.

Gerhard is charged with six counts of carrying and possessing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence, two counts of conspiring to hinder authorities, and one count of accessory after the fact. The weapons charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years for each count after the first.

A prosecutor said yesterday that he believed Gerhard was likely to flee, was a danger to his community and was likely to obstruct justice if he was released from federal custody. A hearing to decide whether he will be released is scheduled for Tuesday.

The court has unsealed detailed affidavits summarizing federal marshals’ evidence in three of the four cases, but an affidavit describing Gerhard’s alleged actions has not yet been made public. The new indictment was dated Wednesday.

Gonzalez, a former military contractor, was the public face of the Browns’ home for several months this summer when he lived at the house and posted frequent updates on their status online. Gonzalez appeared in online photos and videos, many of which showed him armed. He also posted long, rambling accounts of goings-on at the house and his evolving political views.

He was charged with conspiracy, accessory after the fact, and one count of carrying and possessing a firearm in connection with a crime of violence.

The indictment alleges that he purchased the .50-caliber rifle in April. In a blog post a few days later, Gonzalez bragged about owning the gun.

“I get sad knowing not everyone has one,” he wrote on his MySpace page. “Then I think about everyone . . . that is not even close to being ready.”

Gonzalez’s hearing was brief. He pleaded not guilty and will remain in federal custody. A judge in Texas already ruled that Gonzalez should remain held until trial. According to Magistrate B. Janice Ellington’s ruling, Gonzalez is “both a flight risk and a danger to the community.”

“The defendant resisted attempts by the Marshal to arrest him at a residence where numerous firearms, including assault weapons, were present,” the ruling said. “During the arrest, defendant attempted to gain access to those weapons.”

Gonzalez’s father, Jose Gonzalez, said in an interview that it was not surprising that his son appeared to resist arrest, because he was sleeping and startled when marshals arrived about noon last Wednesday.

According to the Alice Echo-News Journal and a blog post made by Gonzalez’s friend Donna Van Meter, Gonzalez’s custody hearing in Texas included rumors of a possible escape plot and an outburst by Jose Gonzalez, who was escorted from the courtroom.

Both men are scheduled for trial in November.
