White House caught providing ’talking points’ to Fox News

White House caught violating anti-propaganda laws, provided ’talking points’ to Fox News

Blue Tidalwave
July 29, 2008

Last week former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan appeared on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and said the White House distributed “talking points” to friendly Fox journalists.

McClellan’s confirmation of an operation inside the White House of providing comprehensive talking points to Fox News and other Conservative talk show personalities to manipulate the media and control the message regarding the Iraq War and the “war on terror” is a violation of anti-propaganda laws. By law the government sources must be disclosed by the reporting news outlets.

Yesterday a report prepared by the Justice Department’s inspector general and its internal ethics office found that a few aides to Alberto Gonzales and White House officials were actively involved in hiring decisions for non political positions at the DOJ. Being a loyal Republican was the main criteria for being hired, not education or experience.

Ron Paul compared to a Terrorist on National Television

Ron Paul compared to a Terrorist on National Television
MSNBC Hack Describes Ron Paul As “The Al Qaeda Wing Of The Republican Party”

Steve Watson
Infowars.net
January 18, 2008

MSNBC correspondent David Shuster today compared Ron Paul to a terrorist on live television commenting that the presidential candidate represents “the Al Qaeda wing of the Republican party”.

Shuster, a regular on Hardball with Chris Matthews and other MSNBC programs was responding to comments Matthews himself had made during an appearance on the Jay Leno show.

Matthews stated that the GOP candidates could be compared to tribal factions in Iraq, commenting that that that Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson are like “the fanatics, the Shia wing” while Rudy Giuliani and John McCain are “the more moderate Sunnis”, with Romney as “the Kurd”.

To describe Rudy Giuliani as “more moderate” is a joke in itself but that is beside the point.

When this exchange was reviewed this morning on MSNBC with Joe Scarborough, Shuster waded in and blurted out “I think it’s a great analogy, I mean Ron Paul is the Al Qaeda wing of the Republican party”. Shuster then began to smirk and laugh as the two anchors attempted to wriggle their way out of the situation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEcUTYbuDvY

So there you have it, the mainstream media, in the form of GE owned MSNBC, literally saying Ron Paul is Al Qaeda.

Shuster goes even further than Glenn Beck did last November when he declared Ron Paul’s supporters to be terrorists. Beck and CNN were flooded with complaints, will this happen to MSNBC? (click here to politely complain and demand a retraction)

Despite the fact that Ron Paul is the only GOP candidate who advocates a complete withdrawal from Iraq, despite the fact that Ron Paul is the only candidate advancing a humble foreign policy, despite the fact that Ron Paul is the only candidate to denounce the concept of preemptive war, he is somehow compared to terrorists.

At the core of Ron Paul’s message lies the unimpeded freedom of the individual in America, the very aspect of life we are told on a daily basis by the same mainstream media is the reason “Al Qaeda” wants to kill us all.

Never mind, Ron Paul is Al Qaeda, just accept it. The sad thing is many people listening to Shuster’s idiocy will.

Ron Paul Wins Virginia Straw Poll

Ron Paul Wins Virginia Straw Poll

Tyler Whitley
Richmond Times Dispatch
December 2, 2007

ARLINGTON — Texas Rep. Ron Paul easily won a presidential poll at a Republican Party of Virginia conference here yesterday.

Paul polled 182 out of about 500 votes cast. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson finished second with 112 votes, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee finished third with 51 votes.

The straw poll was held at the 24th annual Republican Advance, generally attended by activists and grass-roots workers, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in the Washington suburbs.

Republican officials dismissed the poll’s outcome, noting that Paul has been concentrating on winning straw polls all over the country.

Paul bused in young supporters. They waved signs and shouted loudly when his name was mentioned.

“He brought people in here. What is more critical to look at is who finished second and third. That is a more true indicator of the feelings of the Republican Party of Virginia,” said Tucker Watkins of Randolph in Charlotte County, a former 5th District GOP chairman.

Virginia Republicans and Democrats will each hold presidential primaries on Feb. 12. Because several other states have earlier votes, many observers think the nominees of the two parties will be decided by the time Virginians choose.

The major candidates, occupied in Iowa or New Hampshire where the earliest nominating contests will be held, sent surrogates yesterday.

The meeting brought good news for former Gov. Jim Gilmore, who is seeking the party’s nomination to run for the U.S. Senate. A prospective opponent, Del. Christopher B. Saxman of Staunton, said he would not seek the nomination. He said he would not be able to raise money while the General Assembly is in session this winter and so would not be able to mount a credible candidacy.

Del. Robert G. Marshall of Prince William has hinted that he might run, but he did not show up and had a friend read a statement prepared by him which indicated he likely would not run.

Gilmore in a brief speech to the Republicans, urged against defeatism and said he could beat former Gov. Mark R. Warner, a Democratic candidate for the seat now held by Republican Sen. John W. Warner, who is retiring.

“We’ve won two statewide contests [attorney general and governor], we’ve carried Northern Virginia twice,” Gilmore said.

Media Getting Wind of Ron Paul Blimp

It was bound to happen. The mainstream media are starting to get wind of the Ron Paul Blimp. Yes, you read that correctly — a blimp. In case you have been hiding under an Internet boulder, Ron Paul’s wildly creative and resourceful supporters have been up to their old tricks again, much to the dismay of leftists around the country. I’m sure the neocons at Redstate will have their fun with this one, too — they surely miss the traffic now that they’ve banned Ron Paul supporters from posting anything about the candidate on their blogs. Ron Paul? Das ist verboten! But back to the dirigible: a blimp is born, and his name is Who is Ron Paul?

The Los Angeles Times published a piece today called “Foot Soldiers for the Ron Paul Revolution.” Yes, you read that correctly: the L.A. Times actually referred to the revolution as just that, a revolution. In the article they mention the Ron Paul Blimp as part of a laundry list of decentralized campaign achievements at the grassroots level: “One Colorado backer quickly raised more than $350,000 online this week, with a plan to launch a Ron Paul blimp.”

Who in the old media will be next to discover the airborne Paulmobile? We’ll be waiting…

Fox Accuses Ron Paul Campaign Of Using Botnets

Fox Accuses Ron Paul Campaign Of Using Botnets

Kurt Nimmo
Truth News
November 1, 2007

“Ron Paul supporters may be using e-mail spam and dirty tricks to gin up support for their presidential candidate on the Internet,” Fox News claims, and then drags out an expert to pour on the slime.

“This is clearly a criminal act in support of a campaign, which has been committed with or without [its] knowledge,” University of Alabama at Birmingham computer-forensics expert Gary Warner told Wired News. “Warner says his lab traced the e-mails back to servers in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe—signifying that whoever sent them may have used a botnet, or world-wide network of hijacked computers, to pump out massive volumes of e-mail.”

Of course, it is entirely possible over zealous Paul supporters are guilty of such tactics. As well, it is possible a neocon or “conservative” operative is guilty of attempting to heap dirt on the Ron Paul campaign, although Fox does not bother to reach this conclusion. No wonder they are considered “fair and balanced.”

“Ron Paul spokesman Jesse Benton says the campaign has no knowledge of the scam. Warner himself says that he has no reason to believe that the Paul campaign had anything to do with these messages,” adds Wired News. “Some participants in the online political world have long suspected Paul’s technically sophisticated fan base of manipulating online tools and polls to boost the appearance of a wide base of support. But the UAB analysis is the first to document any internet shenanigans.”

Of course, any such “shenanigans”—real, imagined, or conducted by dirty tricksters tasked with taking out the libertarian candidate—pale in comparison to the concerted corporate media and big political machine effort to ignore Paul and lock him out of the election process.

“The finding is significant, because Paul’s online support—as gauged by blog mentions, friends on social-networking sites such as MySpace and popularity in online polls—has garnered him wide mainstream print and television coverage, despite his relatively poor performance in offline polling,” Wired continues.

Naturally, Ron Paul’s grassroots and ingenious viral campaign irks the heck out of his opponents because it is not a dog and pony show controlled by transnational “news” and “entertainment” corporations, determined to shove Bilderberg Hillary or Rudy the mob boss stand-in down the throats of voting Americans.

UK On Board For U.S. Iran Strike

UK On Board For U.S. Iran Strike

Telegraph
October 07, 2007

British defence officials have held talks with their Pentagon counterparts about how they could help out if America chose to bomb Iran.

Washington sources say that America has shelved plans for an all-out assault, drawn up to destroy the Iranian nuclear facilities and take out the Islamist regime.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that President Bush’s White House national security council is discussing instead a plan to launch pinpoint attacks on bases operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds force, blamed for training Iraqi militants.

Pentagon officials have revealed that President Bush won an understanding with Gordon Brown in July that Britain would support air strikes if they could be justified as a counter-terrorist operation.

Since then discussions about what Britain might contribute militarily, to combat Iranian retaliation that would follow US air strikes, have been held between ministers and officials in the Pentagon and the Ministry of Defence.

Vincent Cannistraro — who served as intelligence chief on Ronald Reagan’s National Security Council and then as head of operations for the CIA’s counter-terrorist centre — said: “What’s on the table right now is tactical strikes.”

Last night, Downing Street declined to comment on the suggestion. But Mr Cannistraro has talked about the preparations to senior Pentagon officials and with military and intelligence contacts in the UK. He said: “The British Government is in accord with plans to launch limited strikes on facilities inside Iran, on the basis of counter-terrorism.” While the US Air Force and naval jets could carry out raids without help from the RAF, the Pentagon is keen to have the Royal Navy’s cooperation in the event of an attack, to prevent Iran from sowing mines in the Gulf to block oil exports in retaliation.

Mr Cannistraro said: “The British have to be a major auxiliary to this plan. It’s not just for political reasons: the US doesn’t have a lot of mine clearing capability in the Gulf. The Dutch and the British do.

“There will be renewed discussions with British defence officials about what role Britain would perform in the naval sphere. If there was a retaliatory response by the Iranians, they might close the Straits of Hormuz and that would affect the entire West.”

The White House and Downing Street would justify such an attack as a defensive move to protect allied troops in Iraq. But moderates in the US government are concerned that the counter-terrorist argument may be used by hawks as a figleaf for military action that could escalate into all out war with Iran.

A US intelligence source said that Revolutionary Guard bases, supply depots and command and control facilities “have been programmed” into military computers but stressed that President Bush has not given any “execute order” for military action.

Further details of the US plans for Iran were divulged to Seymour Hersh, the investigative reporter with the New Yorker magazine who has unveiled Pentagon secrets for more than three decades.

American officials told the New Yorker: “During a secure video conference earlier this summer, the President told Ryan Crocker, the US ambassador to Iraq, that he was thinking of hitting Iranian targets across the border and that the British ‘were on board’.”

The magazine added: “The bombing plan has had its most positive reception from the new government of Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown.”

A recently retired American four-star general, told the magazine last week that the bombing campaign would only attract support from the Prime Minister “if it’s in response to an Iranian attack” like the kidnapping of British sailors in March.

The general said the US officials want to strike “if the Iranians stage a cross-border attack inside Iraq” of a significant kind, for example the one that produced “10 dead American soldiers and four burned trucks”.

Britain and America have complained for months about Iranian support for Iraqi militants but Pentagon officials claim that Iran has been told that a line has now been drawn in the sand — a move that has actually helped to stabilise the situation. Details of the US plans were passed to Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Iranian diplomats by Mr Crocker and Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi prime minister, during bilateral talks this summer.

Since then, US officials say there appears to have been a reduction in some of the arms shipments and support to militia elements in Iraq.

Some British military and intelligence figures fear that any endorsement of US plans, however hypothetical, will only embolden the White House faction, led by Vice-President Dick Cheney, which wants major bombing of Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, the national security adviser to former President Carter, said last week the Bush plan was to depict any air strike on Iran as “responding to what is an intolerable situation. This time, unlike the attack in Iraq, we’re going to play the victim.”

Fineman: Intel Community To Release ‘Three Iran Reports’ To ‘Slow Down’ Bush’s Warmongering

Think Progress
October 08, 2007

On the Chris Matthews Show today, NBC’s Howard Fineman revealed that the intelligence community will release “three different reports” in upcoming weeks to “slow down” the administration’s current drumbeat for war with Iran:

The intelligence community over the next few months is going to come out with three different reports on Iran about internal political problems of Iran, about the economy, and about their nuclear capability.

Those are going to be key to decide what the Bush administration is going to do, and it’s the intelligence community I think trying to slow down what the president, most particularly the vice president, want to do in Iran.

Watch it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mluky7X04y4

The intelligence community’s warning against war with Iran echo its warnings prior to the invasion of Iraq. Pre-war intelligence forewarned that occupying Iraq could be a “long, difficult and probably turbulent challenge” and would “accelerate” regional terrorism.

Similarly, the administration “ignore[d] the intelligence community’s belief that the militant Islamist al-Qaida and Saddam’s secular dictatorship were unlikely allies,” instead setting up an “alternative intelligence” shop to disseminate false information about Hussein. Mohamad El Baradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency has also warned that pre-Iraq failures are being repeated with respect to Iran.

Matthews says Bush Admin. has “finally been caught in their criminality”

Matthews says Bush administration has “finally been caught in their criminality”

Examiner
October 4, 2007

Chris Matthews had barely finished praising his colleagues at the 10th anniversary party for his “Hardball” show Thursday night in Washington, D.C. when his remarks turned political and pointed, even suggesting that the Bush administration had “finally been caught in their criminality.”

In front of an audience that included such notables as Alan Greenspan, Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Sen. Ted Kennedy, Matthews began his remarks by declaring that he wanted to “make some news” and he certainly didn’t disappoint. After praising the drafters of the First Amendment for allowing him to make a living, he outlined what he said was the fundamental difference between the Bush and Clinton administrations.

The Clinton camp, he said, never put pressure on his bosses to silence him.

“Not so this crowd,” he added, explaining that Bush White House officials — especially those from Vice President Cheney‘s office — called MSNBC brass to complain about the content of his show and attempted to influence its editorial content. “They will not silence me!” Matthews declared.

“They’ve finally been caught in their criminality,” Matthews continued, although he did not specify the exact criminal behavior to which he referred. He then drew an obvious Bush-Nixon parallel by saying, “Spiro Agnew was not an American hero.”

Matthews left the throng of Washington A-listers with a parting shot at Cheney: “God help us if we had Cheney during the Cuban missile crisis. We’d all be under a parking lot.”

Following his remarks, a few network insiders and party goers wondered what kind of effect Matthews’ sharp criticism of the White House would have on Tuesday’s Republican debate in Dearborn, Michigan, which Matthews co-moderates alongside CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo.

“I find it hard to believe that Republican candidates will feel as if they’re being given a fair shot at Tuesday’s debate given the partisan pot-shots lobbed by Matthews this evening,” said one attendee.

When reached, the White House declined to comment and NBC refused requests to release video of the event. The event included such NBC/MSNBC brass as NBC Senior Vice President Phil Griffin (the former “Hardball” executive producer called “Hardball” the “best show on cable television”), “Meet the Press” host Tim Russert, “Today” show executive producer Jim Bell, NBC News Specials Executive Producer Phil Alongi, “Meet the Press” Executive Producer Betsy Fischer, NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell, MSNBC Vice President Tammy Haddad, “Hardball” correspondent David Shuster and Vice President for MSNBC Prime-Time Programming Bill Wolff.

On a side note: Matthews was overheard discussing his Tuesday appearance on “The Daily Show,” which featured a heated exchange with host Jon Stewart. According to one source, Matthews was steadfast in his belief that the debate left Stewart crestfallen, and Matthews victorious.
