U.S. Department of Homeland Security has warned healthcare providers that BATFE, FBI, and U.S. Marshals will be called to impose mandatory quarantines in the event of a pandemic swine flu outbreak.
According to CBSNews.com, DHS Assistant Secretary Bridger McGaw circulated the “swine flu memo” which says: “The Department of Justice has established legal federal authorities pertaining to the implementation of a quarantine and enforcement. Under approval from HHS, the Surgeon General has the authority to issue quarantines.”
Bush in his Executive Order 13375 that anyone violating a quarantine order will be punished with a 1 year term in prison and a $250,000 fine. The executive order also states the federal quarantine authority is only limited to “novel” strains of influenza such as this current one.
In 2005 the Bush admin released the National Strategy For Pandemic Influenza which states the U.S. government will impose “quarantines” and “limitations on gatherings”. [Source]
In McGaw’s “swine flu memo” also stated that: “U.S. Customs and Coast Guard Officers assist in the enforcement of quarantine orders. Other DOJ law enforcement agencies including the U.S. Marshals, FBI, and BATFE may also enforce quarantines. Military personnel are not authorized to engage in enforcement.” [Source]
But in a different document by the DoD states that the Pentagon will by all means assist in “quarantining groups of people in order to minimize the spread of disease during an influenza pandemic” and aid in “efforts to restore and maintain order.” [Source]
This is already going on, in North Carolina officials are already involuntarily isolating suspected hybrid swine flu patients. [Source]
MSNBC.com is giving the assumption that quarantines are a normal event that Americans should be comfortable with. [Source] In reality this was the only case of “involuntary quarantines” in the U.S. in 45 years. The article falsely states that quarantines will only be handled by state/local authorities, Bush’s Executive Order specifically states a federal response.
The Australian government is not far from implementing the same mandatory quarantines to combat the hybrid swine flu. Health Minister Nicola Roxon has sought sweeping new “quarantine powers” for health officials in case the outbreak worsens. Measures including “making sure that people are isolated, perhaps detained, if they don’t cooperate and are showing symptoms of disease.” [Source]
All of these mandatory detention moves make it more clear that FEMA concentration camps will be the facilities that hold these infected victims of bio-weaponized flu like this current hybrid strain. Could this outbreak be the pretext to soften the public’s view of detentions, so the Government can easily make the move to shut down dissent in the United States?
In January 2009 a bill was introduced in congress to authorize Homeland Security to set up a network of FEMA camps used to house citizens in the event of a national emergency (in this case a pandemic). The National Emergency Centers Act (HR 645) mandates the establishment of “national emergency centers” to be located on military installations for the purpose of providing “temporary housing, medical and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster,”. [Source] HR 645 also stated that the FEMA camps can be used to “meet other appropriate needs, as determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security,”
In February 2009 an Indianapolis county municipal official in the vicinity of Chicago was asked by FEMA and Homeland Security to: “put together a plan to vaccinate every person in the county within 48 hours.” as part of a Hazard Mitigation Plan to deal with a pandemic influenza outbreak. [Source]:
In April 4, 2007 The State of New York Division of Cemetaries sent out a “mass fatality form” to all New York cemeteries so the division can collect data on their abilities to deal with a pandemic influenza outbreak. Cemeterians were asked the following: “Should a prolonged mass fatality disaster of pandemic flu occour in your community would your cemetery be able to provide temporary or permanent number of disaster or flu deaths in additional to your current burial services?”
Cemetery owners were also asked to fill out the capacity of their facilities, the proximity to roads, train lines and airfields. The division also requested data to calculate the number of acres that could be made available for “950 graves per acre”. [Source] This is very ominous as New York is the only one of 18 states to have over 50 people infected from the swine flu virus.
The state of Colorado issued an Executive Order in 2000 asserting authority to bury victims in mass graves and/ or cremate bodies under emergency situation (like a pandemic flu outbreak). [Source] Rocky Mountain News reported February 8, 2003 that: “The state of Colorado could seize antibiotics, cremate disease-ridden corpses and, under extreme circumstances, dig mass graves.”

One hour before the final presidential debate of the 2008 campaign, fourteen members of IVAW marched in formation to Hofstra University to present questions for the candidates. IVAW had requested permission from debate moderator Bob Schieffer to ask their questions during the debate but got no response.
The contingent of veterans in dress uniforms and combat uniforms attempted to enter the building where the debate was to be held in order to ask their questions but were turned back by police. The IVAW members at the front of the formation were immediately arrested, and others were pushed back into the crowd by police on horseback. Several members were injured, including former Army Sergeant Nick Morgan who suffered a broken cheekbone when he was trampled by police horses before being arrested.

Cleaning up road kill and maintaining runways may not sound like cutting-edge investments. But banks and funds with big money seem to think so.
Reeling from more exotic investments that imploded during the credit crisis, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the Carlyle Group, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse are among the investors who have amassed an estimated $250 billion war chest — much of it raised in the last two years — to finance a tidal wave of infrastructure projects in the United States and overseas.
Their strategy is gaining steam in the United States as federal, state and local governments previously wary of private funds struggle under mounting deficits that have curbed their ability to improve crumbling roads, bridges and even airports with taxpayer money.
With politicians like Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California warning of a national infrastructure crisis, public resistance to private financing may start to ease.
“Budget gaps are starting to increase the viability of public-private partnerships,” said Norman Y. Mineta, a former secretary of transportation who was recently hired by Credit Suisse as a senior adviser to such deals.
This fall, Midway Airport of Chicago could become the first to pass into the hands of private investors. Just outside the nation’s capital, a $1.9 billion public-private partnership will finance new high-occupancy toll lanes around Washington. This week, Florida gave the green light to six groups that included JPMorgan, Lehman Brothers and the Carlyle Group to bid for a 50- to 75 -year lease on Alligator Alley, a toll road known for sightings of sleeping alligators that stretches 78 miles down I-75 in South Florida.
Until recently, the use of private funds to build and manage large-scale American infrastructure assets was slow to take root. States and towns could raise taxes and user fees or turn to the municipal bond market.
Americans have also been wary of foreign investors, who were among the first to this market, taking over their prized roads and bridges. When Macquarie of Australia and Cintra of Spain, two foreign funds with large portfolios of international investments, snapped up leases to the Chicago Skyway and the Indiana Toll Road, “people said ‘hold it, we don’t want our infrastructure owned by foreigners,’ ” Mr. Mineta said.
And then there is the odd romance between Americans and their roads: they do not want anyone other than the government owning them. The specter of investors reaping huge fees by financing assets like the Pennsylvania Turnpike also touches a raw nerve among taxpayers, who already feel they are paying top dollar for the government to maintain roads and bridges.
And with good reason: Private investors recoup their money by maximizing revenue — either making the infrastructure better to allow for more cars, for example, or by raising tolls. (Concession agreements dictate everything from toll increases to the amount of time dead animals can remain on the road before being cleared.)
Politicians have often supported the civic outcry: in the spring of 2007, James L. Oberstar of Minnesota, chairman of the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure, warned that his panel would “work to undo” any public-private partnership deals that failed to protect the public interest.
And labor unions have been quick to point out that investment funds stand to reap handsome fees from the crisis in infrastructure. “Our concern is that some sources of financing see this as a quick opportunity to make money,” Stephen Abrecht, director of the Capital Stewardship Program at the Service Employees International Union, said.
But in a world in which governments view infrastructure as a way to manage growth and raise productivity through the efficient movement of goods and people, an eroding economy has forced politicians to take another look.
“There’s a huge opportunity that the U.S. public sector is in danger of losing,” says Markus J. Pressdee, head of infrastructure investment banking at Credit Suisse. “It thinks there is a boatload of capital and when it is politically convenient it will be able to take advantage of it. But the capital is going into infrastructure assets available today around the world, and not waiting for projects the U.S., the public sector, may sponsor in the future.”
Traditionally, the federal government played a major role in developing the nation’s transportation backbone: Thomas Jefferson built canals and roads in the 1800s, Theodore Roosevelt expanded power generation in the early 1900s. In the 1950s Dwight Eisenhower oversaw the building of the interstate highway system.
But since the early 1990s, the United States has had no comprehensive transportation development, and responsibilities were pushed off to states, municipalities and metropolitan planning organizations. “Look at the physical neglect — crumbling bridges, the issue of energy security, environmental concerns,” said Robert Puentes of the Brookings Institution. “It’s more relevant than ever and we have no vision.”
The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that the United States needs to invest at least $1.6 trillion over the next five years to maintain and expand its infrastructure. Last year, the Federal Highway Administration deemed 72,000 bridges, or more than 12 percent of the country’s total, “structurally deficient.” But the funds to fix them are shrinking: by the end of this year, the Highway Trust Fund will have a several billion dollar deficit.
“We are facing an infrastructure crisis in this country that threatens our status as an economic superpower, and threatens the health and safety of the people we serve,” New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg told Congress this year. In January he joined forces with Mr. Schwarzenegger and Gov. Edward G. Rendell of Pennsylvania to start a nonprofit group to raise awareness about the problem.
Some American pension funds see an investment opportunity. “Our infrastructure is crumbling, from bridges in Minnesota to our airports and freeways,” said Christopher Ailman, the head of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System. His board recently authorized up to about $800 million to invest in infrastructure projects. Nearby, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, with coffers totaling $234 billion, has earmarked $7 billion for infrastructure investments through 2010. The Washington State Investment Board has allocated 5 percent of its fund to such investments.
Some foreign pension funds that jumped into the game early have already reaped rewards: The $52 billion Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System saw a 12.4 percent return last year on a $5 billion infrastructure investment pool, above the benchmark 9.9 percent though down from 14 percent in 2006.
“People are creating a new asset class,” said Anne Valentine Andrews, head of portfolio strategy at Morgan Stanley Infrastructure. “You can see and understand the businesses involved — for example, ships come into the port, unload containers, reload containers and leave,” she said. “There’s no black box.”
The prospect of steady returns has drawn high-flying investors like Kohlberg Kravis and Morgan Stanley to the table. “Ten to 20 years from now infrastructure could be larger than real estate,” said Mark Weisdorf, head of infrastructure investments at JPMorgan. In 2006 and 2007, more than $500 billion worth of commercial real estate deals were done.
The pace of recent work is encouraging, says Robert Poole, director of transportation studies at the Reason Foundation, pointing to projects like the high-occupancy toll, or HOT, lanes outside Washington. “The fact that the private sector raised $1.4 billion for the Beltway project shows that even projects like HOT lanes that are considered high risk can be developed and financed privately and that has huge implications for other large metro areas,” he said .
Yet if the flow of money is fast, the return on these investments can be a waiting game. Washington’s HOT lanes project took six years to build after Fluor Enterprises, one of the two private companies financing part of the project, made an unsolicited bid in 2002. The privatization of Chicago’s Midway Airport was part of a pilot program adopted by the Federal Aviation Administration in 1996 to allow five domestic airports to be privatized. Twelve years later only one airport has met that goal — Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, N.Y. — and it was sold back to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
For many politicians, privatization also remains a painful process. Mitch Daniels, the governor of Indiana, faced a severe backlash when he collected $3.8 billion for a 75- year lease of the Indiana Toll Road. A popular bumper sticker in Indiana reads “Keep the toll road, lease Mitch.”
Joe Dear, executive director of the Washington State Investment Board, still wonders how quickly governments will move. “Will all public agencies think it’s worth the extra return private capital will demand?” he asked. “That’s unclear.”

The spectacle of two individuals caught on camera calling for violence and then affiliating themselves with peaceful demonstrators in Denver has raised questions about who is behind apparent “agent provocateurs,” intent on demonizing legitimate protest groups at the Democratic National Convention.
Several news outlets reported that nationally syndicated radio talk show host Alex Jones had “threatened” neo-conservative pundit Michelle Malkin during a confrontation between the two yesterday.
The same websites then claimed that people affiliated with Jones had screamed “Kill Michelle Malkin” and advocated violence against the columnist.
“Jones and his lackeys chased Michelle around the protest threatening to kill her!” claims the Gateway Pundit blog.
Other news sources, including People’s Press Collective and Political Byline, re-iterated the false charge and alleged that Jones had threatened Malkin.
In reality, the You Tube video of the incident shows two young men in court jester outfits approach Jones, claim they are fans of his and then put their arms around him for a photo opportunity. They then go off camera and advocate the murder of Malkin, continuing their threats despite the best efforts of Jones’ colleague Luke Rudkowski to make them cease their outburst.:
Tellingly, the man in green (and Jones’ “lackey” according to the reports) also shouts, ”Alex Jones is a capitalist stooge.”
This incident was clearly a staged set-up to fool the watching media into thinking that people affiliated with Jones were calling for violence, thus demonizing Jones himself and the rest of the peaceful protesters who were confronting Malkin.
It was “frat-boy type” instigators, notes Aaron Dykes, editor of The Jones Report, “wearing court jester hats and making inflammatory statements.” Dykes further states that, after chanting for Malkin’s death, these instigators asked why Alex had called for violence against Malkin.
Alex Jones nor any of his colleagues have ever called for violence against Michelle Malkin or any other individual. Confrontational protest is one thing, but assault and death threats are something that Alex Jones has vehemently denounced throughout his years of activism.
For clues about who the mysterious “court jesters” really belong to, consider the fact that members of the Re-Create 68 protest group, a self-proclaimed left-wing anarchist organization, voiced their support for right-wing Malkin throughout the confrontation with Jones, with one member, Kenneth Sanchez, at one point yelling “Michelle Malkin is a true patriot!”
According to other protest groups, Re-Create 68 is a COINTELPRO-style project designed to discredit legitimate antiwar groups by instigating violence in Denver during the DNC. According to Alex Jones, members of Re-Create 68 have habitually attempted to taunt police and provoke riots during the first few days of the convention.
Discovering the true identity and affiliation of the two individuals seen in the video calling for violence is key to preventing the wholesale demonization of legitimate protest groups as well as stopping a potential police crackdown which may come as a result of these instigators provoking riots.

Reading Fort Collins Now, formerly Fort Collins Weekly, one has to ask if Julia Cobb got her journalism degree out of a crackerjack box. Reporting on the events outside the DNC yesterday, Cobb describes Alex Jones’ confrontation with the neocon Michelle Malkin as follows:
But soon, the attention was diverted from the peaceful protest by an altercation between a member of the conservative media and a citizen attending the protest. This was the second incident of its kind; on Sunday, protesters took exception to a Fox News reporter trying to question Ward Churchill, controversial former professor at the University of Colorado. Today it was radical Alex Jones, from the group 9/11 Truth, which believes that the September 11 terrorist attacks were planned by the U.S. government, verbally confronting Michelle Malkin, a conservative columnist and Fox News contributor.
“You support torture. Shame on you, you fascist piece of trash,” Jones yelled. He also accused Malkin of supporting the U.S. Marines when they drown puppies.
Malkin found an ally in Recreate 68’s Sanchez, who pushed his way into the crowd of TV cameras to yell at Jones: “Michelle Malkin is a true patriot!”
Sanchez later said he had no idea why Jones was attending the protest and added that Recreate 68 does not support Jones’ ideas. He added that although they strongly disagree with her views, Recreate 68 supports Malkin’s right to free speech.
Drown puppies? Lance Cpl. David Motari didn’t drown a puppy. He threw it over a cliff. This was a big story back in March, but for some reason Ms. Cobb didn’t bother to do any research.
She also did not mention the fact that Michelle Malkin insisted the puppy was not real. “The puppy doesn’t move. It’s clear to me that it’s either dead or a stuffed toy. The sound effects of a dog yapping seem to have been dubbed in,” Malkin wrote on her blog on March 3. “Disturbing whether the dog is real or fake, dead or alive? Yes. A hanging offense? No. But the clip is a useful cultural Rorschach test. Those who buy into the soldier-as-monster narrative are up in arms — demanding that the soldiers be hunted down and shot.”
Malkin then includes a few obscenity laced quotes that accompanied the video on YouTube. “I’m sure Gloria Steinem and the Berkeley City Council would agree,” she adds. This is the same Gloria Steinem who enjoyed “a 10-year association with the CIA,” according to Nancy Borman and the Village Voice. As a member of the CIA’s Mockingbird corporate media — Malkin works for Fox News — it would seem Michelle Malkin has more in common with Ms. Steinem than she would care to admit.
It is bizarre to claim Malkin “found an ally” in Recreate 68’s Kenneth Sanchez, who along with co-founder Mark Cohen attempted to “levitate” the U.S. Mint in Denver. Of course, this is not even original, it was ripped off from Abbie Hoffman. Back in 1967, 50,000 hippies attempted to levitate the Pentagon, turn it orange, and drive out the evil spirits responsible for the Vietnam War. Mark Cohen, wearing a red velvet wizard costume, and Recreate 68 managed to attract 50 people to this less than original stunt.
It makes sense Sanchez would declare Malkin a “true patriot,” although Recreate 68 allegedly disagrees with her views. According to Truth Alliance, Recreate 68 is a COINTELPRO project designed to discredit legitimate antiwar groups by instigating violence in Denver during the DNC. Malkin did her part, adding to the hype on her blog on March 21 when she wrote that Recreate 68 is part and parcel of “the history of left-wing violence against law enforcement” and admonished the cops to “take the nutballs seriously.” In response, nutball Sanchez embraced Malkin and disavowed the “radical” Alex Jones.
“Recreate 68 co-founder Glenn Spagnuolo agreed [with Sanchez] saying [Alex Jones] is “the true agent provocateur, he was so busy hating, he missed all the love.” Spagnuolo’s “love” is rather peculiar, as the point of Recreate 68 is to initiate a re-run of the 1968 police riot in Chicago. Is it possible Mr. Spagnuolo echoes Yippie Jerry Rubin, who wished for martial law in Chicago? Love has nothing to do with bashing heads.

Unknown to the public, Rennie Davis, Tom Hayden, and the others who became the “7?, and persons connected with them in the National Mobilization to End the War in Viet Nam, were funded by federal money, channeled to them through pass-through organizations connected with the government. $192,000 in federal money and $85,000 from the Carnegie Foundation, acting as a conduit for the Central Intelligence Agency, were funneled to Hayden, Davis, et al., through a front calling itself the Chicago Student Health Organization. To maintain the deep “cover” of this latter group, stories were planted in the press describing the group as being “communist” inspired or directed.
Another $193,313 was funneled to the “7? from the federal Office of Economic Opportunity by way of or through subsidiaries of the Institute for Policy Studies, Washington, D.C., an alleged “liberal” think tank posing as a left wing group, but acting as a conduit for the C.I.A. Other substantial funds came from the Roger Baldwin Foundation which has, nationwide, taken over the structure of the American Civil Liberties Union. It’s no longer simply the neocon bloggers spreading lies about Alex Jones. Now the Dallas Morning News has engaged in slander. Mark Davis, described as a “radio guy and contributing columnist” to the newspaper’s “opinion blog,” writes:

I refer to the cretinous Alex Jones, who hosts what passes for a radio talk show on a few stations unwise enough to carry it. His blend of 9/11 conspiracy bunk and other baseless scaremongering makes him a complete idiot, a designation which gives him plenty of innocent company. But in shouting “Kill Michelle Malkin!” at a protest yesterday, he reveals himself to be not just a dismissible loon, but a despicable soul whom I would identify as a blight on my industry if I actually considered him to be a part of it. (Emphasis added.)In short, according to the Dallas Morning News, Alex Jones called for Michelle Malkin to be murdered. Infowars, Prison Planet, and no shortage of blogs and websites have spent the last two days revealing this for what it is — a complete lie, in fact a neocon dirty trick.
It really is quite amazing the Dallas Morning News would be so careless. It has committed libel, as there is plenty of irrefutable evidence that Alex Jones did not call for Malkin’s murder.
In the opinion of this writer, the Dallas Morning News not only needs to apologize and print a retraction, it needs to fire Mark Davis for violating journalistic ethics.
But then I forgot — the corporate media has no ethics.

In a clip taken from a Pajamas Media podcast, PJM producer Ed Driscoll gets an admission from videographer Andrew Marcus and blogger Charlie Martin that Alex Jones did not call for the murder of Michelle Malkin during a demo to “levitate” the Denver Mint on August 25. This admission by Malkin’s people should put to rest the claims, primarily on neocon blogs and, unfortunately, by Mark Davis at the Dallas Morning News, that Alex Jones threatened Malkin. Marcus and Martin, however, attempt to portray Jones as violent and attempting to incite a “mob,” although Malkin was not touched by Alex Jones and he was in no way responsible for the behavior of people in the crowd, including two individuals who acted as agents provocateurs.

Presidential frontrunner Barack Obama has called for a “civilian national security force” as powerful as the U.S. military, comments that were ignored by the vast majority of the corporate media but compared by one journalist to the Nazi Hitler Youth.
“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded,” Obama told a Colorado Springs audience earlier this month.
World Net Daily editor Joseph Farah asked if he was the only journalist in America who found Obama’s statement troubling.
“If we’re going to create some kind of national police force as big, powerful and well-funded as our combined U.S. military forces, isn’t this rather a big deal?” wrote Farah.
“Are we talking about creating a police state here? The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn’t count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion. Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?”
KnoxNews.com is seemingly the only other media outlet to express interest in exactly what Obama is proposing.
“The statement was made in the context of youth service. Is this an organization for just the youth or are adults going to participate? How does one get away from the specter of other such “youth” organizations from Nazi Germany and the former Soviet Union when talking about it?” wrote Michael Silence.
Obama’s proposal smacks of an expanded version of an existing program in which hundreds of police, firefighters, paramedics and utility workers have been trained and recently dispatched as “Terrorism Liaison Officers” in Colorado, Arizona and California to watch for “suspicious activity” which is later fed into a secret government database.
It is also reminiscent of the supposedly canned 2002 Operation TIPS program, which would have turned 4 per cent of Americans into informants under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department.
TIPS lived on in other guises, such as the Highway Watch program, a $19 billion dollar Homeland Security-run project which trains truckers to watch for suspicious activity on America’s highways.
More recently, ABC News reported that “The FBI is taking cues from the CIA to recruit thousands of covert informants in the United States as part of a sprawling effort…..to aid with criminal investigations.”
Since authorities now define mundane activities like buying baby formula, beer, wearing Levi jeans, carrying identifying documents like a drivers license and traveling with women or children or mentioning the U.S. constitution as the behavior of potential terrorists, the bounty for the American Stasi to turn in political dissidents is sure to be too tempting to resist under Obama’s new program.

Since the start of the year, the Bush administration has kickstarted a $30 billion effort to shore up cyber security, installed a new “czar” for online defense, and reserved the right to snoop on everyone’s net traffic, to ward off a digital attack.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says the White House is still asleep at the switch, when it comes to network defense.
“We know that cyber-espionage and common crime is already on the rise. And yet while countries like China have been quick to recognize this change, for the last eight years we have been dragging our feet,” he said in a speech today at Purdue University, focusing on unconventional threats.
His recommendations on network security were vague, mostly. But they did include some subtle digs at the current administration.
As President, I’ll make cyber security the top priority that it should be in the 21st century. I’ll declare our cyber-infrastructure a strategic asset, and appoint a National Cyber Advisor who will report directly to me.
The current cyber chief serves under the Department of Homeland Security. He also, it should be noted, had no experience in security, whatsoever.
And while Obama avoided some of the more bellicose rhetoric that’s been been skipping around the government — like the Air Force’s calls for network “dominance” — he did highlight his concerns about a potential online takeover of our country’s infrastructure.
To protect our national security, I’ll bring together government, industry, and academia to determine the best ways to guard the infrastructure that supports our power…. We need to prevent terrorists or spies from hacking into our national security networks. We need to build the capacity to identify, isolate, and respond to any cyberattack. And we need to develop new standards for the cyber security that protects our most important infrastructure –- from electrical grids to sewage systems; from air traffic control to our markets.
Intelligence officers and security officials claim hackers have been able to shut down American power grids. That’s an assertion our cohorts at Threat Level have vigorously contested.

The gun control capital of America – Chicago – where only the criminals are allowed to own firearms – has been hit by a fresh wave of crime and violence, prompting Governor Rod Blagojevich to call for National Guard helicopters to be used in law enforcement operations.
Blagojevich plans to form an “elite tactical team” to help the city fight crime, according to a speech he gave last week.
“Violent crime in the city of Chicago is out of control,” Blagojevich said at the bill signing ceremony. “I’m offering resources of the state to the city to work in a constructive way with Mayor Daley to do everything we can possibly do to help stop this violence,” said the governor.
Citing the fact that a child has been shot nearly every day since the end of June, Blagojevich called for National Guard helicopters to be used in high crime areas.
However, as police department spokeswoman Monique Bond noted, the actual number of homicides in the city is significantly down.
“2008 may end with fewer than 500 homicides and that it is expected to be one of the least deadly years in the city in the last 40 years,” reports NBC5.com.
Following questions regarding the use of National Guard choppers in the city, Blagojevich’s office attempted to pour cold water over the issue by stating that National Guard troops would not enter the city.
“The only way the National Guard would be involved, if they are involved, is with the use of tactical helicopters that are currently used in narcotics operations,” spokesman Lucio Guerrero said in a prepared statement.
The precedent for National Guard units and military personnel to be used in domestic law enforcement has been a growing cancer for the last three decades.
Documentarian and radio talk show host Alex Jones has has attended numerous military urban warfare training drills across the U.S. where role players were used to simulate arresting American citizens, confiscating their weapons, and taking them to internment camps. Actors scream out that they have constitutional rights as they are handcuffed and hauled off to the detainment facility.
Legislation has already been passed that paves the way for the U.S. military to engage American citizens on home soil.
The John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007 allows the President to declare a “public emergency” and station troops anywhere in America and take control of state-based National Guard units without the consent of the governor or local authorities, in order to “suppress public disorder.”
Military-style drills involving unmarked black helicopters (the kind that the corporate media insists only exist inside the minds of conspiracy nutjobs) took place in Denver and Florida last month under the pretext of “terrorism training,” with choppers buzzing around downtown Denver and even causing damage to people’s property by flying well below legal altitudes.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A teenager died after being hit with a police Taser gun for 37 seconds, and the whole thing was caught on tape by surveillance cameras.
Authorities said that Darryl Turner had been in a confrontation with a supervisor at work at a North Carolina grocery store.
When Officer Jerry Dawson arrived, he fired his Taser gun at the 17-year-old and struck him in the sternum.
“The initial use of the (Taser gun) is not in question,” said Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Ken Miller.
However, for 37 seconds, Dawson continued to use the Taser gun against the teen.
An autopsy revealed that Darryl Turner died of a heart attack, authorities said.
NBC Charlotte affiliate WCNC reported that Dawson was given a five-day suspension for firing the Taser gun too long.
Cop won’t be fired for wheelchair beating

In 2005, Officer William Cozzi was captured on a hospital surveillance camera beating Randle Miles about 10 times. Miles, then 60, was a drunk and unruly stabbing victim.
Cozzi, 51, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery in state court and got 18 months’ probation. The department asked the Chicago Police Board to fire him, but the civilian disciplinary panel decided instead to suspend him last October. The department filed an appeal the following month.

U.S. Forest Service officers pointed weapons at children and fired rubber bullets and pepper spray balls at Rainbow Family members while making arrests Thursday evening, according to witnesses.

A trained nurse, Rachelle Jackson immediately ran toward the sound of the crash. A Chicago police car had collided with another vehicle and was starting to smoke, two officers still inside. Fearing an explosion, she quickly pulled one officer from the passenger side.She never imagined her act of kindness nearly six years ago would land her in jail for more than 10 months on charges that she robbed, battered and disarmed a peace officer.
Jackson filed a lawsuit, and on Thursday a federal jury found against the city and several Chicago police officers, awarding Jackson $7.7 million for false arrest, malicious prosecution, coercive questioning and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
“I’m going to go home and lie down for a little bit,” an ecstatic Jackson, 41, said after the verdict. “I feel relieved. I’m happy, and I’m thanking God.”

The 2008 Bilderberg Meeting is now in full swing at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly, Virginia, USA but you wouldn’t know it from the media blackout of this event by virtually all mainstream media outlets in the United States. Each year, Bilderberg hosts some of the most powerful people in North America and Europe where these individuals set and shape policies for the world. The 2008 Bilderberg Meeting is slated to run from June 5th through June 8th. Since 1954, Bilderberg has met in secrecy primarily thanks to the intentional lack of media attention paid to it. One would think that an event where over 100 of the most high profile and powerful people from North America and Europe are meeting would receive a great deal of mainstream media attention, but there is virtually none. As a result of the media blackout, only independent journalists and alternative researchers have been covering this event on a year to year basis. Due to a greater amount of attention being paid to this event, a press release on the Bilderberg Meeting was issued from a group that identified themselves as the American Friends of Bilderberg. The press release provides spin on how wonderful Bilderberg is and even provides a contact number that can be used to obtain a list of attendees. The Logan Act states that it is illegal for those holding public office in the United States to attend secret meetings like Bilderberg where policy is set. Regardless, that has not stopped people like Rick Perry from attending the 2007 Bilderberg Meeting as the sitting Texas governor. Jim Tucker, who has covered the Bilderberg meeting for over 30 years, has accurately made future predictions based upon information he has received from moles within Bilderberg. There is no doubt that policy is set at this meeting and quite frankly if you think that some of the most powerful people in the world are getting together just for laughs, you are sorely mistaken.

No where in the press release does it explain why many alternative researchers and independent journalists have been harassed and in many cases threatened in their attempts to cover this meeting. In fact, for many decades there were consistent denials of Bilderberg’s existence so it is quite amazing that they have finally decided to make an official recognition of the meeting. Not only that, but if the meeting really is just an informal discussion to allow its participants to speak openly and freely, than there shouldn’t be any need for threats, harassment and decades of secrecy. The meeting has been kept secret for many years because it is quite obvious that the participants do not want sunlight shone on the meeting’s agenda. This press release is nothing more than a smoke screen to make the average person believe that this is a legitimate meeting when it is not. All of of these very powerful people would not be meeting once a year if there wasn’t a real specific purpose for them to do so.
According to the official list of Bilderberg attendees, there is no doubt that this is the who’s who of elites in the Western world. The list includes the likes of banking and oil tycoon David Rockefeller, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Google CEO Eric Schmidt, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, Robert Zoellick, CEO of the Washington Post Donald Graham, Richard Perle, the Queen of Spain and many other incredibly powerful and well known people. Often times the list of Bilderberg attendees does not actually include everyone who makes an appearance.
There is also speculation that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama met at the Bilderberg Meeting yesterday. Jim Johnson the former Fannie Mae CEO and 2008 Bilderberg attendee is one of the individuals tasked to choose Obama’s running mate so an appearance at Bilderberg by Obama and Clinton makes perfect sense. Despite that, the media has been running a story saying that Clinton and Obama met at Senator Dianne Feinstein’s house which flies in the face of logic. There is a distinct possibility that this story is actually cover so Obama and Clinton could briefly attend Bilderberg and possibly work out a deal. Of course, we will probably never know the entire truth. Despite that, both Clinton and Obama were in the Washington DC area yesterday, and Obama’s campaign actually misdirected the press core that follows him. While Obama stayed in the Washington DC area, the media was told to fly out to Chicago only to find out Obama did not fly out with them. Needless to say, the press was not very happy about this. But either way, why all the secrecy if Clinton and Obama are just meeting at Feinstein’s house? The more likely answer is that the secrecy and misdirection was required to conceal the fact that they were actually going to Bilderberg to work something out. If the media tracked down Clinton or Obama to the Bilderberg Meeting, the chances of the mainstream media covering Bilderberg would increase substantially. Currently, several protesters have gathered outside of the Westfields Marriott expressing disgust at the secretive and conspiratorial agenda that these elites have to destroy United States sovereignty and form a centralized world government. There is little doubt that the Bilderberg Meeting would quickly turn into a media circus if mainstream media outlets tracked Obama back to this location.
It remains to be seen what sort of agenda the Bilderberg Group will decide to push forward throughout the next year, but we should find out bits and pieces over the next few weeks and months. The lack of mainstream media coverage of this event is simply incredible especially considering that the American Friends of Bilderberg issued a press release on the meeting. This is more evidence that the mainstream media is run by a bunch of fascist hacks. When over 100 of the most powerful people in the world meet in one location it should be front page news. Instead, the corporate controlled media prefers to focus in on tabloid news stories covering the antics of celebrities and other rubbish. The fact that there has been almost no media coverage of this event in the United States is evidence as to how bought and paid for the corporate controlled media in the United States actually is. Be sure to continue to check out the alternative media for coverage on this very important yearly meeting of the global elite. Simply put, it doesn’t look as if the corporate controlled media has the balls to cover Bilderberg so the alternative media has to do their job for them.

Infowars has received an anonymous email reporting that the Department of Justice has placed an order for a large number of ipods with “Bilderberg 2008″ engraved on the back and shipping to Chantilly, Virginia, at American tax payer expense. According to the source, the DOJ is “freaking out” because the order will arrive late.

Senator Barack Obama’s office has refused to deny that the Democratic nominee attended Bilderberg last night following reports that he and Hillary Clinton were present at “an event in Northern Virginia.”
As we reported earlier today, Obama’s press entourage were not informed of his secret meeting with Hillary Clinton in Northern Virginia until they were literally locked inside a plane that was taxiing down the runway on its way to Chicago.
Reporters were duped into believing that they were getting on a plane back to the campaign headquarters in Chicago with the presumptive nominee, while in reality Obama’s motorcade instead sped off in secrecy to Northern Virginia, which is also the scene of this week’s Bilderberg conference. The plane was stationed at Dulles International, which is less than a 20 minute drive from Chantilly Virginia as is shown below.
Bilderberg sleuth Jim Tucker called Obama’s office today to ask if he had attended Bilderberg. A campaign spokeswoman refused to discuss the matter but would not deny that Obama had attended Bilderberg.
According to Alex Jones, security is so tight around Bilderberg that it does befit the visit of a potential future President.
Armored cars, men in suits hanging out of vehicles with guns and what looked like Marines have all been spotted in the vicinity of the Westfields Marriott.
Despite the controversy of Obama and Hillary’s secret meeting and its obvious link to the ongoing Bilderberg conference, not one U.S. corporate media outlet, or any mainstream media outlet, has reported on over a hundred of the world’s most powerful people meeting in secret on U.S. soil.
There was one reporter from the Fairfax Times who showed up today but they were not completely confident that any such report would make it to print.

It has emerged that Obama’s press entourage were not informed of his secret meeting with Hillary Clinton in Northern Virginia until they were literally locked inside a plane that was taxiing down the runway on its way to Chicago.
The press reacted angrily to the way in which Obama’s campaign organizers covered up the meeting, which is now suspected by many to have been planned in conjunction with the secretive 2008 Bilderberg Group meeting of around 140 corporate and political luminaries.
Reporters were duped into believing that they were getting on a plane back to the campaign headquarters in Chicago with the presumptive nominee, while in reality Obama’s motorcade instead sped off in secrecy to Northern Virginia.
“Why were we not told about this meeting until we were on the plane, the doors were shut and the plane was about to taxi to take off?” one reporter asked Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs in a heated exchange that was caught on camera by CNN.
“Senator Obama had a desire to do some meetings, others had a desire to meet with him tonight in a private way and that is what we are doing.” Gibbs replied.
“Is there more than one meeting, is there more than one person with whom he is meeting” asked another reporter.
“I am not going to get into all the details of the meeting.” Gibbs fired back.
Gibbs denied that the secret meetings were planned beforehand and indicated Obama’s attendance was a last minute rearrangement.
“There was a desire to do some meetings tonight, he was interested in doing them, others were interested in doing them, and to do them in a way that was private.” Gibbs repeated.
“If the president goes bike riding, we go with him. If he goes out to dinner or goes to visit a friend three blocks up the road, we go with him in the motorcade,” another reporter told Gibbs. “That’s the expectation in a general election, and that’s the way it’s been with previous candidates…That’s the way it is done.”

“You could tell the media you’re having a private meeting and give them the option of not getting on the plane.” came another comment. Of course, had this transpired, the media would most probably have connected the location of the Obama/Hillary meeting with that of the Bilderberg group.
The last thing the Bilderberg elite would have wanted was a confused and inquisitive mob of journalists at their Marriott hotel doorstep, along with scores of protesters and alternative media reporters such as Infowars’ Alex Jones, American Free Press Editor Jim Tucker and We Are Change’s Luke Rudkowski.
Following an unusual solitary press release this morning, a full list of the attendees of this year’s Bilderberg meeting has been released. It would hardly be surprising to find Obama and Clinton rubbing shoulders with the likes of Condoleeza Rice, Fed chairman Ben Bernanke, former White House advisor Richard Perle and former Deputy Secretary of Defense and President of the World Bank Paul Wolfowitz.
Also in attendance is Bilderberg luminary and top corporate elitist James A. Johnson, who, as we reported last month, will select Obama’s running mate for the 2008 election and in turn potentially act as kingmaker for America’s future President.
It is now seems increasingly likely that the secret meetings with Bilderberg this weekend will herald the decision to name Hillary Clinton as Obama’s VP candidate.

That time, Johnson himself selected Edwards in a last-minute change decision after it appeared as though Dick Gephardt was going to secure the position. Passing the House of Representatives on a voice vote, S. 1858 has been sent to President Bush for signature. The Newborn Genetic Screening bill was passed by the Senate last December. The bill violates the U.S. Constitution and the Nuremberg Code, writes Twila Brase, president of the Citizen’s Council on Health Care (CCHC). “The DNA taken at birth from every citizen is essentially owned by the government, and every citizen becomes a potential subject of government-sponsored genetic research,” she states. “It does not require consent and there are no requirements to inform parents about the warehousing of their child’s DNA for the purpose of genetic research. Already, in Minnesota, the state health department reports that 42,210 children of the 780,000 whose DNA is housed in the Minnesota ‘DNA warehouse’ have been subjected to genetic research without their parents’ knowledge or consent.”
The federal government lacks the Constitutional authority as well as the competence to develop a newborn screening program, states Rep. Ron Paul, M.D. (R-TX). He states that all hospitals will probably scrap their own newborn testing program and adopt the federal model, whatever its flaws, to avoid the loss of federal funding.
“Drafters of the legislation made no effort to ensure that these newborn screening programs do not violate the privacy rights of parents and children,” Dr. Paul noted.
Ms. Brase has called on President Bush to veto the bill.

Gold pushed as high as $940 just before the open of the New York session on Thursday, then fell off until the noon hour, but then reversed field once again, moving higher to finish at $929.40/oz., down $4.60. Overnight, gold has edged lower.
Platinum was higher in the European markets, but declined in New York, to end at $2026/oz., unchanged. Overnight, platinum has slipped lower.
Silver peaked at $18.40 in early London trading, fell off until mid-morning in New York, then traded sideways for the rest of the day, closing at $17.95, down 22 cents. Overnight, silver has been flat.
It was a mixed day for the precious metals, with early weakness giving way to a spate of buying later in the day, and no major changes by the end.

The price of oil has surged to a new record, with a barrel a crude trading above $112 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
A government report that oil and fuel supplies were lower than expected last week gave crude a push past its latest milestone. But months of buying by speculators and by investors seeking refuge from a falling dollar have also lifted oil to its new heights.
Light, sweet crude for May delivery has traded as high as $112.16, surpassing the previous trading record of $111.80 set ast month.

The US dollar declined against its major counterparts in early deals on Thursday, hitting a fresh record low against the euro. Against its other major counterparts, the dollar weakened to new multi-day low during this time period.
The US trade balance, initial jobless and continuing claims are the major economic events slated for release later in New York morning.
The US dollar plummeted to new record low of 1.5915 against the euro at about 5:10 am ET Thursday, compared to yesterday’s closing value of 1.5832.

Optimism for a dollar rebound that pervaded the currency market at the start of the year is fading.
Futures traders doubled bets against the greenback in the past two months, data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in Washington show. Police in a Chicago suburb say the Internal Revenue Service has told a 7-year-old boy he owes back taxes on $60,000 because someone else has been using the youngster’s identity to collect wages and unemployment benefits.
Officers in suburban Carpentersville said Friday the second-grader’s identity has been in use by someone else since 2001.
Detectives have filed a felony identity theft charge against 29-year-old Cirilo Centeno of Streamwood, Ill.
They accuse Centeno of using the boy’s personal information to collect more than $60,000 in pay and services while working three jobs. They say he also used the boy’s ID to buy a truck, pay bills and even collect unemployment benefits.

For more than seven months, the nation’s top public health agency has blocked the publication of an exhaustive federal study of environmental hazards in the eight Great Lakes states, reportedly because it contains such potentially “alarming information” as evidence of elevated infant mortality and cancer rates.
Researchers found low birth weights, elevated rates of infant mortality and premature births, and elevated death rates from breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer.
The 400-plus-page study, Public Health Implications of Hazardous Substances in the Twenty-Six U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern, was undertaken by a division of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the request of the International Joint Commission, an independent bilateral organization that advises the U.S. and Canadian governments on the use and quality of boundary waters between the two countries. The study was originally scheduled for release in July 2007 by the IJC and the CDC’s Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).
The Center for Public Integrity has obtained the study, which warns that more than nine million people who live in the more than two dozen “areas of concern”—including such major metropolitan areas as Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, and Milwaukee—may face elevated health risks from being exposed to dioxin, PCBs, pesticides, lead, mercury, or six other hazardous pollutants.

In Merry Old England, it is now illegal to take photographs. If you do so in public, the cops will consider you an active member of al-Qaeda.
“Police have seized films from an amateur photographer, accusing him of obtaining photographs of possibly sensitive material in Hull city centre,” reports Amateur Photographer. “Photo enthusiast Steve Carroll… said that the officers objected to him photographing ‘sensitive buildings’, one later adding that people had been anxious about his use of the camera.”
In other words, it is now illegal in Britain to be a street photographer and if you are caught in the process the cops will grab your film, sort of like they did in the Soviet Union.

In Chicago, tourists consulting maps and those with cameras are now to be considered to be with al-Qaeda.
Chicago’s “Bureau of Strategic Deployment” has issued an “awareness bulletin” advising snitches to turn in people using binoculars, cameras, and maps to the Deployment Operation Center, apparently part and parcel of the Ministry of Homeland Security. “See Something, Say Something, Call 911,” posters demand of the citizenry.
As well, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time — workplaces, business establishments, or key facilities — you will be considered a homegrown terrorist. If caught by snoops “mapping out routes, playing out scenarios” or “timing traffic lights,” you will be denounced. If your neighbors or family catch you “stockpiling suspicious materials or abandoning potential containers for explosives,” described as “vehicles, suitcases,” they are instructed to call 911 and turn you in.

In a stunning defeat for the federal government, seven Miami men dubbed the “Liberty City Seven” who were accused of plotting to join forces with Al-Qaida to blow up the Chicago Sears Tower in 2006 were let go. One man was acquitted and a mistrial was declared for the six others after a federal jury ended up in a deadlock. What makes this case significant, is that the FBI actually utilized a paid informant to infiltrate the group posing as a fake Al-Qaida member in order to convince the men to blow up the Chicago Sears Tower. The group itself never made contact with any real so called Al-Qaida members and never acquired any weapons or explosives. Prosecutors even acknowledged that the alleged terror cell was aspirational versus operational. The FBI actually tried to create a threat that didn’t exist and the jury’s actions confirms that there was not adequate information to convict these men. Since the public isn’t buying the phony war on terror, the federal government with help from the establishment media tries to invent phony terror threats.
The following is taken from an Associated Press article covering the event.
Prosecutors said the “Liberty City Seven” — so-named because they operated out of a warehouse in Miami’s blighted Liberty City section — swore allegiance to al-Qaida and hoped to forge an alliance to carry out bombings against America’s tallest skyscraper, the FBI’s Miami office and other federal buildings.
The group never actually made contact with al-Qaida. Instead, a paid FBI informant known as Brother Mohammed posed as an al-Qaida emissary.
The defense portrayed the seven men as hapless figures who were either manipulated and entrapped by the FBI or went along with the plot to con “Mohammed” out of $50,000.
The group never actually made contact with al-Qaida and never acquired any weapons or explosives. Prosecutors said no attack was imminent, acknowledging that the alleged terror cell was “more aspirational than operational.”
When the arrests of these men first became public, the arrests were made a national joke by
John Stewart mocking the press conference with then Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Gonzales and the Feds had admitted at that time that the men had no means to carry out a terror attack yet still considered them a viable terrorist threat.
The deadlocked jury combined with admitted statements from the federal government is obvious proof that there was no terror threat from the “Liberty City Seven” and that this whole situation was provoked by the FBI. Other incidents like the Fort Dix Six raise additional questions about the federal government’s credibility on the subject of this phony war on terrorism. The war on terror isn’t real and if it was the government wouldn’t need to send FBI informants to entrap a group of crazy people hanging out in a warehouse.
